[6145] Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: 'Wavering between that,' he said: 'They are the hypocrites.'
His saying, the Almighty: 'Not to these.'
[6146] My father narrated to us, Abu Hudhayfah narrated to us, Shibl narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: 'Not to these,' [meaning] to the companions of Muhammad.
[6147] My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: 'Not to these,' he says: 'They are neither sincere believers nor are they polytheists who openly declare their polytheism.'
His saying, the Almighty: 'And not to these.'
[6148] My father narrated to us, Abu Hudhayfah narrated to us, Shibl narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid regarding His saying: 'And not to these,' [meaning] the Jews.
[6149] Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: 'And not to these,' he says: 'They are not polytheists, so they do not manifest polytheism, and they are not believers.'
His saying, the Almighty: 'A way.'
[6150] And by the same chain from al-Suddi: '[A] way,' he says: 'an argument.'
His saying, the Almighty: 'O you who have believed, do not take the disbelievers.'
[6151] My father narrated to us, Malik ibn Isma'il narrated to us, Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Dinar, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: 'A clear authority,' he said: 'Every [mention of] authority (sultan) in the Qur'an is an argument (hujjah).' It was narrated from Mujahid, Sa'id ibn Jubayr, 'Ikrimah, Muhammad ibn Ka'b, al-Dahhak, al-Suddi, and al-Nadr ibn 'Arabi something similar.
[6152] My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah: 'Do you want to provide Allah with a clear authority against you?' And [indeed] Allah has the authority over His creation, but he says: 'a clear excuse.'
