[6171] Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj and 'Amr ibn 'Abd Allah al-Awdi narrated to us, both said: Abu Usamah narrated to us, from Isma'il ibn Muslim, from al-Hasan, regarding: "Allah does not like the public mention of evil except by one who has been wronged," [he said]: "It has been permitted for him to invoke [evil] against the one who has wronged him, without transgressing."
[6172] My father narrated to us, al-Nufayli narrated to us, 'Abd Allah—meaning Ibn 'Amr—narrated to us, he said: I asked 'Abd al-Karim about the saying of Allah the Almighty: "Allah does not like the public mention of evil except by one who has been wronged," he said: "It is the man who insults you, so you insult him back; but if he slanders you, do not slander him back, similar to His saying: 'And whoever avenges himself after having been wronged.'"
His saying, the Almighty: "If you disclose [something of] good or conceal it or pardon an offense - indeed, ever is Allah Pardoning and Competent."
[6173] Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Ibn 'Ulayyah narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid: "If you disclose," he said: "[This is] from certainty and doubt."
[6174] My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: "Allah has informed His servants of His judgment, His pardon, His generosity, the vastness of His mercy, and His forgiveness. So whoever commits a sin, small or large, then seeks forgiveness from Allah, he will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful; even if his sins were greater than the heavens, the earth, and the mountains."
His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers."
[6175] And by way of him, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: "Then Allah described hypocrisy and its people, saying: 'Indeed, those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers.'"
[6176] My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' reported, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Indeed, those who disbelieve in Allah and His messengers," he said: "Those are the enemies of Allah, the Jews and the Christians."
His saying, the Almighty: "And His messengers."
