[6183] I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim informed us, from Bukayr, from Muqatil regarding His saying: "A humiliating punishment"; he means by al-muhin (the humiliating): al-hawan (disgrace).

His saying, the Almighty: "And those who believe in Allah and His messengers."

[6184] 'Ali ibn al-Hasan al-Hisinjani narrated to us, Muhammad ibn al-Musaffa narrated to us, Baqiyyah narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Isma'il ibn 'Abd Allah al-Kindi narrated to us, from al-A'mash regarding His saying: "He will give them their rewards," he said: "Their rewards are that He will cause them to enter Paradise."

His saying, the Almighty: "The People of the Scripture ask you."

[6185] Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "The People of the Scripture ask you," he said: "The Jews."

His saying, the Almighty: "To bring down to them a book from the heaven."

[6186] And by way of him, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "To bring down to them a book from the heaven"; he said: "They had asked Musa (Moses) for something greater than that. The Jews said to him: 'If you are truthful that you are the Messenger of Allah, bring us a written book from the heaven just as Musa brought.'"

[6187] My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' informed us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "The People of the Scripture ask you to bring down to them a book from the heaven," meaning a specific book.

His saying, the Almighty: "They asked Musa for something greater than that."

[6188] My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn al-Mughirah narrated to us, Yazid ibn Zuray' informed us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding: "They asked Musa for something greater than that," [he said]: "Their saying: 'Show us Allah openly.'"

His saying, the Almighty: "And they said, 'Show us Allah openly.'"

[6189] My father narrated to me, he said: Ahmad ibn Hafs ibn 'Abd Allah al-Naysaburi wrote to me, my father narrated to me, Ibrahim ibn Tahman narrated to me, from 'Abbad ibn Ishaq, from Abu al-Huwayrith, from Ibn 'Abbas that he said regarding the saying of Allah: "Openly," meaning: publicly/manifestly.

[6190] Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan ibn Salih narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Sa'id informed me, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Openly," meaning: clearly/with one's own eyes. It has been narrated from al-Rabi' ibn Anas something similar."
