al-Sha'bi, regarding "And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed, then they are the defiantly disobedient," he said: It was revealed concerning the Christians.

[6464] Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Ibn Jurayj, from 'Ata' regarding His saying: "...then they are the defiantly disobedient," he said: It is disobedience below the level of [full] disbelief. A similar [report] was narrated from Ibn Tawus.

[The fourth view]

[6465] Sulayman ibn Harb mentioned from Hammad ibn Zayd, from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujahid: "And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed, then they are the defiantly disobedient"—[meaning] the disobedient [sinners].

[6466] Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, he said: I heard 'Abd Allah ibn Zayd ibn Aslam saying regarding His saying: "...then they are the defiantly disobedient," he said: The liars.

[The fifth view]

[6467] Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to me, 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Mahdi narrated to us, from Sufyan, from Mansur, from Ibrahim regarding "And whoever does not judge by what Allah has revealed, then they are the defiantly disobedient" [and the rest of] the verses. He said: It was revealed concerning the Children of Israel, and He was satisfied with it for these [people].

His saying, the Exalted: "And We have revealed to you the Book"

[6468] My father narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Raja' narrated to us, 'Imran Abu al-'Awwam al-Qattan informed us, from Qatadah, from Abu al-Malih, from Wa'ilah, that the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: The Qur'an was revealed when twenty-four days of Ramadan had passed.

His saying, the Exalted: "...the Book with the truth"

[6469] Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed me in what he wrote to me, my father narrated to me, my uncle narrated to me, my father narrated to me, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And We have revealed to you the Book," he said: It is the Qur'an.

His saying, the Exalted: "...confirming"

[6470] And through the same chain from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "...confirming," he said: Bearing witness.
