His saying: "Except if it be carrion."

8005 - Abu Tawbah Ahmad ibn al-Faraj al-Himsī told us, al-Mu'ammal told us, Isra'il told us, from Simak, from 'Ikrimah, from Sawdah bint Zam'ah, who said: We had a ewe that died, so we threw it away. The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "What became of the ewe?" We said: "It died, O Messenger of Allah, so we threw it away." The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, recited the verse: "Say, 'I do not find within that which was revealed to me a forbidden...'" upon a consumer who consumes it, the verse. He said: "Why did you not make use of its hide?" So we sent for it, skinned it, and tanned its hide, then we made a water skin out of it, and we continued to make use of it until it became worn out.

8006 - Abu 'Abd Allah Muhammad ibn Hammad al-Tihrani told me, Hafs ibn 'Umar al-'Adani informed us, al-Hakam ibn Aban told us, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: There is nothing among animals that is forbidden except what Allah has forbidden in His Book, His saying: "Say, 'I do not find within that which was revealed to me a forbidden...'" upon a consumer who consumes it, except if it be carrion.

8007 - al-Fadl ibn Shadhan told us, Sa'id ibn Mansur told us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Muhammad told us, 'Isa ibn Numaylah al-Fazari informed me, from his father, he said: I was with 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar when a man asked him about eating a hedgehog. He recited: "Say, 'I do not find within that which was revealed to me a forbidden...'" upon a consumer who consumes it. An elder who was with him said: I heard Abu Hurayrah say: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, was asked about it and he said: "It is an impure thing among impure things." Ibn 'Umar said: If the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said it, then it is as he said.

His saying, Exalted is He: "Or blood poured out."

8008 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: His saying: "Or blood poured out," meaning: shed.

8009 - My father told us, Sahl ibn 'Uthman told us, Abu al-Ahwas told us, from Simak, from 'Ikrimah, he said: A man came to Ibn 'Abbas and said: May I eat the spleen? He said: "Yes." He said: "But it is mostly blood?" He said: "Allah only forbade the blood that is poured out."

8010 - Salih ibn Ahmad ibn Hanbal told us, he said: I heard my father say: I heard Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah say regarding His saying: "Or blood poured out": The poured out is the 'abit (freshly shed/pure blood).
