The second view:
8755 - Abu Zur'ah mentioned it, 'Ubayd ibn Jannad told us, Ibn al-Mubarak told us, from Muhammad ibn Yasar, from Yazid ibn Abi Sa'id, from 'Ikrimah regarding "Until they multiplied [hatta 'afaw]," he said: They became insolent and ungrateful (asharu wa bataru).

8756 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-A'la told us, Muhammad ibn Thawr told us, from Ma'mar, from Qatadah: "Until they multiplied," he says: Until they were pleased with that.

8758 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam saying: Until they multiplied from that punishment.
His saying, the Almighty: "And they said: 'Indeed, hardship and ease have touched our fathers'"
8759 - Musa ibn Harun al-Tusi informed us in what my father wrote, al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Marwazi told us, Shayban told us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And they said: 'Indeed, hardship and ease have touched our fathers,'" he said: They said: Similar to this has happened to our fathers, so it was nothing.
His saying: "So We seized them"
8760 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "So We seized them suddenly [baghtatan]," he says: The punishment seized them suddenly.
His saying, the Almighty: "While they were unaware [wa hum la yash'urun]"
8761 - Musa ibn Harun al-Tusi informed us in what he wrote to me, al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Marwazi told us, Shayban told us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "So We seized them suddenly, while they were unaware," he said: The command of Allah came upon the people suddenly."
