8844 - Hajjaj told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding "and [a] shortage of fruits," [meaning] other than that; he means other than the calamity.

His saying, the Almighty: "But when good comes to them"

8845 - And by the same chain, from Mujahid, "But when good comes to them," [meaning] well-being and prosperity.

8846 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: "But when good comes to them," he said: The "good" is what they love.

His saying, the Almighty: "they say: This is ours"

8847 - Hajjaj told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, "they say: This is ours," and we are more deserving of it.

His saying, the Almighty: "And if an evil strikes them"

8848 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: "And if an evil strikes them," he said: When they face what they dislike, they say: "This has only afflicted us due to the ill-omen of these [people] who are among us," just as the people of Salih said: "We consider you and those with you as an omen of evil." So Allah said: "Your omen is with Allah, but you are a people being tested."

His saying, the Almighty: "they ascribed it to ill-omen from Musa and those with him"

8849 - Hajjaj told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "they ascribed it to ill-omen from Musa and those with him," [meaning] they considered Musa—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—to be an omen of evil.

8850 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh told us: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd regarding His saying: "And if an evil strikes them, they ascribe it to ill-omen from Musa and those with him," they said: "This evil did not befall us except because of you, O Musa, and those with you; we did not see evil nor did it befall us until we saw you."

His saying, the Almighty: "Unquestionably, their omen is with Allah"

8851 - Ahmad ibn al-Azhar ibn Mani' informed us in what he wrote to me, Wahb ibn Jarir told us, my father told us, from 'Ali ibn al-Hakam, from al-Dahhak regarding His saying: "their omen is with Allah," he says: The matter is from Allah; whatever befalls you from the decree of Allah, it is from Allah due to what your hands have earned."
