Muhammad ibn Ishaq, Sadaqah ibn Yasar told me, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas who said: Allah gave Moses the Torah on seven tablets of chrysolite, in which there was an explanation of all things and an admonition of the Torah written. When he brought them and saw the Children of Israel had devoted themselves to the calf, he cast the Torah from his hands, so it shattered, and he turned to Aaron and grabbed him by the head. Allah then took up six-sevenths of it and one-seventh remained.

And the second interpretation:

8958 - My father told us, Sahl ibn 'Uthman told us, Abu 'Ali told us, from Ja'far ibn Muhammad, from his father, from his grandfather, in a marfu' (elevated) report, he said: The tablets that were sent down to Moses were from the lote tree of Paradise; the length of the tablet was twelve cubits.

And the third interpretation:

8959 - My father told us, Adam al-'Asqalani told us, Abu Ja'far al-Razi told us, from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, from Abu al-'Aliyah who said: The tablets of Moses were of papyrus.

And the fourth interpretation:

8960 - My father told us, my maternal uncle Muhammad ibn Yazid told us, Ishaq ibn Sulayman told us, from Abu al-Junayd, from Ja'far ibn Abi al-Mughirah, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr who said: They used to say the tablets were of jacinth, but I say they were of emerald, and their writing was gold, and the Most Merciful—Blessed and Exalted be He—wrote them with His own Hand, and the inhabitants of heaven heard the screeching of the Pen.

The fifth interpretation:

8961 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn Umayyah told us, Hakkam told us, from Abu al-Junayd, from Ja'far, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr who said: The tablets were of jacinth which Allah wrote with His Hand, and the inhabitants of the heavens heard the screeching of the Pen.

His saying, the Exalted: "...of all things an admonition."

8962 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas who said: Allah—the Almighty and Majestic—had written on the tablets the mention of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and the mention of his nation, and what He had stored for them with Him, and what He made easy for them in their religion, and what He made expansive for them in what He permitted for them.
