[8033] Abu Sa'id ibn Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Qattan told us, Yahya ibn Adam told us, Sharik told us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: His saying: "And upon those who are Jews, We have forbidden every animal with an undivided hoof," he said: "It is that which does not have separated toes, meaning not cloven-toed; among them are the camel and the ostrich."
It was narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, Mujahid, 'Ikrimah, Qatadah, al-Dahhak, 'Ata' al-Khurasani, and Muqatil ibn Hayyan; and similarly it was narrated from Hanash al-San'ani, and he added to it: "and the swine."
Similarly, it was narrated from al-Suddi and Qatadah, and he added to it: "and the goose."
Sa'id ibn Jubayr added: "and the rooster."
His saying: "And from the bovine and the ovine, We have forbidden to them their fat."
8034 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi: His saying: "And from the bovine and the ovine, We have forbidden to them their fat," he said: "We have forbidden to them of the fats the omentum [thurub] and the kidney fat. The Jews used to say: 'Israel only forbade it, so we forbid it.'"
His saying: "Except what their backs carry."

8035 - My father told us, Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: His saying: "Except what their backs carry," meaning: "What is attached to the back of the fat." Similar was narrated from al-Dahhak and Muqatil ibn Hayyan.
The second aspect:
8036 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj and Ahmad ibn Sinan told us, they both said: Abu Mu'awiyah told us, from Ibn Abi Khalid, from Abu Salih: "Except what their backs carry," he said: "The fat tail [al-aliyah]." Similar was narrated from al-Suddi.
His saying: "Or the entrails [al-hawaya]."
