He said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "He gives life and causes death," meaning He hastens what He wills and delays what He wills of their appointed times by His power.

His saying, the Almighty: "Who believe in Allah and His words"

[The first interpretation]

8367 - al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan told us, Ibrahim al-Harawi told us, Hajjaj informed us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujahid: "Believe in Allah and His words"—'Isa (Jesus), peace and blessings be upon him.

And the second interpretation:

8368 - Muhammad ibn Yahya told us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid told us, from Sa'id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Who believe in Allah and His words," he says: His signs.

His saying, the Almighty: "And among the people of Musa (Moses) is a community who guide by the truth"

8369 - al-Husayn ibn al-Sakan al-Basri told us in Baghdad, Abu Zayd Sa'id ibn Uways al-Nahwi told us, Qays ibn al-Rabi' told us, from Ibn Abi Layla, from al-Minhal ibn 'Amr, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: Musa said: "O Lord, I find a community who give the charity of their wealth, then it returns to them and they eat it thereafter." He said: "That is a community that will be after you, the community of Ahmad (Muhammad)." He said: "O Lord, I find a community who pray the five [daily prayers], which are expiations for what is between them." He said: "That is a community that will be after you, the community of Ahmad." He said: "O Lord, make me of the community of Ahmad." He said: So Allah the Almighty revealed, as if to appease Musa: "And among the people of Musa is a community who guide by the truth and by it they judge justly."

8370 - My father told us, Harmalah told us, Ibn Wahb told us, Abu Sakhr Humayd ibn Ziyad told me, from Abu Mu'awiyah al-Bajali, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Abu al-Sahba' al-Bakri, who said: I heard 'Ali calling the Rami al-Jalut (a leader of the Jews) and the Bishop of the Christians. He said: "I am asking you both about a matter, and I am more knowledgeable about it than you." 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, said to him: "Tell me, into how many sects did the Children of Israel split after Musa, peace be upon him?" He said: "No, by Allah." 'Ali said to him: "You lied. They split into seventy-one sects, all of them in the Fire." Then he called for the Bishop and said: "Into how many sects did the Nazarenes (Christians) split after 'Isa, peace be upon him?" He said: "No, by Allah, not even one sect." 'Ali said three times: "You lied. By Allah, besides Whom there is no deity, they split into seventy-two sects, all of them in the Fire except one.

As for you, O Jew, Allah the Blessed and Exalted says: 'And among the people of Musa is a community who guide by the truth'"
