[His saying: "What is apparent of them."]

[The First Aspect]

8066 - My father told us, Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And do not approach immoralities—what is apparent of them and what is concealed," he said: "In the Jahiliyyah, they did not see any harm in fornication in secret, yet they considered it shameful in public; so Allah forbade fornication in both secret and public." It was also narrated from 'Ata', from 'Ikrimah, Abu Salih, 'Ali ibn Husayn, Qatadah, al-Rabi' ibn Anas, and al-Suddi something similar.

The Second Aspect:

8067 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah told us, Muhammad ibn al-Hasan told us, Ibrahim ibn Tahman told us, from 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn 'Abbas: "The immoralities—what is apparent of them," he said: "Marrying mothers and daughters." It was also narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr something similar.

The Third Aspect:

8068 - My father told us, Abu Ghassan told us, Qays told us, from Khusayf, from Mujahid: "As for what is apparent of them, it is His saying: 'And do not marry those whom your fathers married,' and His saying: 'And [you may not] collect [in marriage] two sisters [simultaneously].'"

The Fourth Aspect:

8069 - It was mentioned from Rawh ibn 'Ubadah, 'Uthman ibn Ghiyath told us, from 'Ikrimah: "What is apparent of them: oppression—oppressing the people."

The Fifth Aspect:

8070 - My father told us, 'Amr ibn Rafi' told us, Ibn al-Mubarak told us, from Yunus, from al-Zuhri, regarding His saying: "The immoralities—what is apparent of them," he said: "Nudity; they used to circumambulate the House [the Kaaba] naked."

His saying, exalted be He: "And what is concealed."

8071 - My father told us, Ibrahim ibn Musa told us, Hisham ibn Yusuf informed us, from Ibn Jurayj, 'Ata' told me, from Ibn 'Abbas: "The immoralities—what is apparent of them and what is concealed," he said: "What is concealed is the secret.". It was also narrated from 'Ikrimah, Qatadah, 'Ata' al-Khurasani, al-Rabi' ibn Anas, and al-Suddi something similar.
