Sadaqah narrating from al-Suddi: "Exalted is Allah above what they associate [with Him]." He says: Above what the polytheists associate with Him, and He did not mean the two of them (Adam and Hawwa').
8661 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi, regarding His statement: "Exalted is Allah above what they associate [with Him]," he said: This is a break from the verse regarding Adam, specifically concerning the idols of the Arabs.
8662 - Al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah al-Harawi told us, Hajjaj told us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujahid, regarding "Exalted is Allah above what they associate [with Him]," it is al-intikaf (exaltation); He exalted Himself, may He be glorified and exalted. He says: He magnified Himself, and the angels glorified Him and what has offered tasbih to Him.
8663 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi Hammad told us, Mihran told us, from Sufyan, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik, he said: This is separated. They obeyed him regarding the child, then "Exalted is Allah above what they associate [with Him]" was revealed. And he said: This is for the nation of Muhammad. Abu Malik says this.
His statement, the Exalted: "Do they associate with Him those who create nothing and they are themselves created?"
8664 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam saying: A child was born to Adam, and he named him 'Abd Allah. Then Iblis came to them and said: "What have you two named this child of yours, you, O Adam, and you, O Hawwa'?" He said: And their children before that were born, and they would name them 'Abd Allah. Iblis said: "Do you think that Allah will leave His servant with you two? By Allah, He will surely take him away as He took the other one, but I will guide you to a name that will remain for you as long as you remain; so name him 'Abd al-Shams (Servant of the Sun)." So they named him that. That is His statement, the Exalted: "Do they associate with Him those who create nothing and they are themselves created?" The sun does not create anything; it is only created. He said: And the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, said: "He deceived them twice." Zayd said: He deceived them in Paradise, and he deceived them on Earth.
His statement, the Exalted: "And they cannot help them."
His statement, the Exalted: "And if you call them to guidance, they will not follow you."
8665 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: If one who calls them to guidance receives an answer, then he has been guided to the path.
