[His saying, the Almighty: "It will grant you a criterion (furqan)"]

[The first interpretation]

8988 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab reported, Bishr ibn 'Umarah reported, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "It will grant you a criterion," he says: Victory.

The second interpretation:

8989 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih reported, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih reported, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding his saying: "O you who have believed, if you fear Allah, He will grant you a criterion," and the criterion is: The exit.

It was narrated from Mujahid, 'Ikrimah, al-Dahhak, Qatadah, al-Suddi, and Muqatil ibn Hayyan—except that Mujahid said: An exit in this world and the Hereafter. And in one of the two narrations from Ibn 'Abbas and al-Suddi: A salvation on the Day of Resurrection.

The third interpretation:

8990 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Amr reported, Salamah ibn al-Fadl reported, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, Muhammad ibn Ja'far ibn al-Zubayr reported, from 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr: "It will grant you a criterion," meaning: a distinction between truth and falsehood, by which Allah will manifest your truth and extinguish by it the falsehood of those who oppose you.

His saying, the Almighty: "And will remove from you your misdeeds."

8991 - My father narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Mahdi reported, Yahya ibn Ya'la reported, from Mansur or Layth, from Mujahid, regarding it: He forgives much of the sins for whom He wills. It was narrated from al-Thawri similar to that.

His saying, the Almighty: "And Allah is the possessor of great bounty."

8992 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Salih ibn Muslim reported, Fudayl ibn Marzuq reported, from 'Atiyyah, Ibn 'Abbas narrated to me, he said: When Allah calls something "great," it is great.

8993 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Ibn Bukayr reported, Ibn Lahi'ah reported, 'Ata' ibn Dinar reported, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding His saying: "The Great," meaning: abundant.

His saying, the Almighty: "And [remember] when those who disbelieved plotted against you."

8994 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Sa'id al-Jawhari reported, Yahya ibn Sa'id al-Umawi reported, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, from Ibn Abi Layla, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas:
