The Fourth Aspect:
9049 - Abu Harun Muhammad ibn Khalid al-Kharraz narrated to us, Ishaq ibn Sulayman narrated to us, Talhah ibn Amr narrated to us, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "And clapping," he said: Their barring of people.
9050 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us—in what he wrote to me—Asbagh ibn al-Faraj narrated to us, he said: I heard Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: "Whistling and clapping," he said: "Clapping" [means] from the path of Allah, and their barring people from prayer and from the religion of Allah.
His saying, the Almighty: "So taste the punishment for what you used to disbelieve."
9051 - My father narrated to us, Abd al-Aziz ibn Munib narrated to us, Abu Mu'adh narrated to us, from Ubayd ibn Sulayman, from al-Dahhak regarding His saying: "So taste the punishment for what you used to disbelieve," he means: The people of Badr, Allah punished them with killing and captivity.
9052 - My father narrated to us, Ibn Abi Umar al-Adani narrated to us, Sufyan narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, he said: The punishment for the people who admit [the truth] is by the sword, and the punishment for the people who deny [the truth] is by the Scream and the Earthquake.
His saying, the Almighty: "Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth..."
9053 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Uqbah ibn Khalid al-Sakuni narrated to us, Khattab ibn Uthman al-Usfuri narrated to us, he said: I heard al-Hakam ibn Utaybah saying regarding His saying: "Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert [people] from the way of Allah," he said: It was revealed regarding Abu Sufyan; he spent forty uqiyahs of gold on the polytheists, and the uqiyah on that day was forty-two mithqals of gold.
9054 - My father narrated to us, Isa ibn Abi Fatimah narrated to us, Ya'qub al-Qummi narrated to us, Ja'far ibn Abi al-Mughirah informed us, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "Indeed, those who disbelieve spend their wealth to avert [people] from the way of Allah, then they will spend it..." until the end of the verse, he said: It was revealed regarding Abu Sufyan ibn Harb; he hired two thousand of the Ahabish from Kinanah on the day of Uhud, and he fought the Prophet—may Allah bless him and grant him peace—with them, in addition to those whom he gathered from the Arabs, and they are those about whom Ka'b ibn Malik—may Allah be pleased with him—spoke.
