His saying, the Almighty: "Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease, that which has passed will be forgiven them."

9066 - Yunus ibn Abd al-A'la informed us by way of reading, Ibn Wahb informed us, he said: Malik said: A disbeliever is not held accountable for anything he did in his state of disbelief if he embraces Islam, and that is because Allah, the Almighty, says: "Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease, that which has passed will be forgiven them. And if they return, then the precedent of the ancients has already passed."

9067 - Abu Ubayd Allah, the nephew of Ibn Wahb, narrated to us, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, he said: Malik ibn Anas said regarding the divorce of the polytheists from their wives and then their remarriage after their conversion to Islam: He said: Their divorce is not counted as anything, because Allah, the Almighty, said: "Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease, that which has passed will be forgiven them."

His saying, the Almighty: "And if they return."

9068 - Muhammad ibn al-Abbas narrated to us, Zunayj narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq, Yahya ibn Abbad narrated to us, from his father: "And if they return" to your war.

His saying, the Almighty: "Then it has passed."

9069 - Abu Bakr ibn Abi Musa narrated to us, Harun ibn Hatim narrated to us, Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik, regarding His saying: "Passed," he means: Elapsed.

His saying, the Almighty: "The precedent of the ancients."

9070 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "Then the precedent of the ancients has already passed," among Quraysh and others on the day of Badr, and the nations before that.

9071 - My father narrated to us, Ibn Abi Umar narrated to us, he said: Sufyan said regarding His saying: "Say to those who have disbelieved, if they cease, that which has passed will be forgiven them. And if they return, then the precedent of the ancients has already passed," regarding the people of Badr and the likes of us.

His saying, the Almighty: "And fight them until there is no fitnah (trial/persecution)."

9072 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, Abu Mu'awiyah narrated to us, al-A'mash narrated to us, from Abu Zabyan, he said: A man came to Sa'd and said to him: Will you not go out and fight with the people so that there is no fitnah? Sa'd said: I have fought with the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, until there was no fitnah, but you and that one with the belly (al-batin) want me to fight until there is fitnah. It was also narrated from Ibn Umar similar to that.
