And He taught them what they ought to do in their war, saying: "O you who have believed, when you encounter a company [of the enemy] fighting for the cause of Allah, stand firm."

[The First Aspect]
9131 - It was read to Yunus ibn Abd al-A'la, Ibn Wahb informed us, Abd al-Rahman ibn Ziyad ibn An'am reported to me, from Abu Abd al-Rahman al-Hubuli, from Abd Allah ibn Amr, [who] said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, said: "Do not desire to encounter the enemy, and ask Allah for well-being; but if you encounter them, then stand firm, and remember Allah often. And if they raise a clamor and shout, then silence is incumbent upon you."
9132 - It was read to Yunus ibn Abd al-A'la, Ibn Wahb informed us, Abd Allah ibn Ayyash reported to me, from Yazid ibn Qudhar, from Ka'b al-Ahbar, [who] said: There is nothing more beloved to Allah than the recitation of the Quran and the remembrance [dhikr]. Were it not for that, He would not have commanded the people to pray and to fight. Do you not see that He has commanded the people to remember [Him] during fighting? He said: "O you who have believed, when you encounter a company [of the enemy], stand firm, and remember Allah often, that you may be successful."
The Second Aspect:
9133 - My father narrated to us, Abdah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, Ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, Ibn Jurayj informed us, from Ata, [who] said: Silence and remembrance [dhikr] are obligatory during the advance [of the battle]. Then he recited: "When you encounter a company [of the enemy], stand firm, and remember Allah often." I said: "Should they recite the remembrance aloud?" He said: "Yes."
His saying, the Almighty: "That you may"
9134 - Abu Bakr ibn Abi Musa narrated to us, Harun ibn Hatim narrated to us, Abd Allah ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, from Asbat ibn Nasr, from al-Suddi, from Abu Malik, [regarding] His saying: "That you may", [meaning]: in order to.
His saying, the Almighty: "Be successful"
9869 - Yunus ibn Abd al-A'la narrated to us, Ibn Wahb informed us, Abu Sakhr al-Madini informed us, from Muhammad ibn Ka'b, that he used to say regarding this verse: "That you may be successful", he says: That you may be successful tomorrow when you meet Me.
His saying, the Almighty: "And obey Allah and His Messenger"
