تفسير ابن أبي حاتم
مجلد 5 · صفحة 323قوله تعالى: ومن يتوكل على الله

الترجمة · EN

Their fathers restrained them, so they went out while they were in a state of doubt. When they saw the small number of the Companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, they said, "Their religion has deluded these people," given the state in which they arrived, with their small number and the multitude of their enemy. They were youths from Quraysh, five in number: Abu Qays ibn al-Walid ibn al-Mughirah and Abu Qays ibn al-Fakih ibn al-Mughirah, both of the Makhzum clan; al-Harith ibn Zam'ah, 'Ali ibn Umayyah ibn Khalaf, and al-'As ibn Munabbih.(1)

9168 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding: "When the hypocrites and those in whose hearts is a disease say." He said: When the people drew close to one another, Allah made the Muslims appear few in the eyes of the polytheists and made the polytheists appear few in the eyes of the Muslims. So the polytheists said: "Who are these? Their religion has deluded them." They only said that because of their small number in their eyes, and they thought they would defeat them, not doubting that within themselves. So Allah the Almighty said: "And whoever relies upon Allah, then indeed, Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise."

9169 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid narrated to us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Their religion has deluded these people." He said: He saw a band of the believers who were firm in the command of Allah. He said: It was mentioned to us that when the enemy of Allah, Abu Jahl ibn Hisham, looked down upon Muhammad and his companions, he said: "By Allah, Allah will not be worshipped after today," in cruelty and arrogance.

His saying, the Almighty: "And whoever relies upon Allah"

9170 - Muhammad ibn al-'Abbas narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Amr Junayj narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, he said: Muhammad ibn Ishaq said: "And upon Allah," not upon the people, "should they rely."

His saying, the Almighty: "And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved"

9171 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Munib narrated to us, Abu Mu'adh al-Nahwi narrated to us, from 'Ubayd ibn Sulayman, from al-Dahhak: "And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved"—those of the polytheists whom Allah killed at Badr.

9172 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Abu al-Asbagh narrated to us, 'Attab narrated to us, from Khusayf, from Miqsam, from Ibn 'Abbas, he said: Two verses through which the disbeliever is given tidings at his death: "And if you could but see when the angels take the souls of those who disbelieved, striking their faces and their backs."
