The second interpretation:

8280 - Muhammad ibn Isma‘il ibn Samurah told us, Abu Yahya al-Himmani told us, al-Nadr Abu ‘Umar al-Khazzaz told us, from ‘Ikrimah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: The tree which Allah the Almighty forbade Adam from was the ear of grain (al-sunbulah). Similar was narrated from al-Hasan al-Basri, Wahb ibn Munabbih, ‘Atiyyah al-‘Awfi, ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Abi Layla, Abu Malik, and Muharib ibn Dithar.

8281 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Muhammad ibn ‘Isa told us, Salamah ibn al-Fadl told us, Muhammad ibn Ishaq told me, from some of the people of Yemen, from Wahb ibn Munabbih, that he used to say: It was wheat (al-burr), but a single grain of it in Paradise was like the kidneys of cattle, softer than butter, and sweeter than honey.

The third interpretation:

8282 - Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj told us, Abu Ahmad told us, from Sufyan, from Husayn, from Abu Malik regarding "And do not approach this tree," he said: The palm tree.

The fourth interpretation:

8283 - ‘Umar ibn Shabbah ibn ‘Ubaydah al-Numayri told us, Abu Khalaf—meaning ‘Abd Allah ibn ‘Isa al-Hariri—told us, from Sa‘id, from Qatadah regarding "And do not approach this tree," he said: It is the fig.

It was narrated from Mujahid and Ibn Jurayj something similar.

8284 - ‘Isam ibn Rawwad al-‘Asqalani told us, Adam told us, Abu Ja‘far al-Razi told us, from al-Rabi‘, from Abu al-‘Aliyah, who said: The tree was such that whoever ate from it would defecate, and it is not fitting for there to be excrement in Paradise.

8285 - al-Hasan ibn Abi al-Rabi‘ told us, ‘Abd al-Razzaq informed us, ‘Umar ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman ibn Muhrab informed us, who said: I heard Wahb ibn Munabbih saying: When Allah the Almighty caused Adam and his wife to dwell in Paradise, He forbade him from the tree. It was a tree whose branches were intertwined with one another, and it had fruit that the angels would eat for their immortality; and that was the fruit which Allah forbade Adam and his wife from.

His saying, the Almighty: "So you would be among the wrongdoers."

8286 - Muhammad ibn ‘Ubayd Allah ibn al-Munadi informed us, in what he wrote to me, Yunus ibn Muhammad told us.
