7975 - My father told us, 'Abd Allah ibn Raja' told us, Isra'il informed us, from Muslim, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "and small (farsh)," he said: The farsh is the young of the camels. It was narrated from al-Hasan the like of that.

The Second Aspect:

7976 - My father told us, Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "and small (farsh)," he said: The farsh is sheep. It was narrated from Abu al-'Aliyah, al-Hasan, Qatadah, al-Dahhak, and al-Rabi' the like of that.

His saying, the Exalted: "Eat from what Allah has provided for you"

7977 - Yunus ibn Habib told us, Abu Dawud told us, Abu 'Amir al-Khazzaz told us, from al-Hasan—meaning Allah's saying: "from what He has provided for you"—verily, He did not mention your yellow or your red, but rather your "asfarakum" (what He has made lawful for you). He said: You shall limit yourselves to its lawful portions. It was narrated from Muqatil ibn Hayyan the like of that.

His saying, the Exalted: "And do not follow the footsteps of Satan"

7978 - 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Khalaf ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Himsi told us, Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb told us, Shayban ibn 'Abd al-Rahman told us, Mansur ibn al-Mu'tamir told us, from Abu al-Duha, from Masruq, he said: An udder and salt were brought to 'Abd Allah ibn Mas'ud, and he began to eat. A man from the people withdrew, so Ibn Mas'ud—may Allah be pleased with him—said: Pass it to your companion. He said: I do not want it. He said: Are you fasting? He said: No. He said: Then what is the matter with you? He said: I vowed that I would never eat an udder. Ibn Mas'ud said: This is from the footsteps of Satan, so eat and offer expiation for your oath.

7979 - My father told us, he said: Some of the scholars of Rayy mentioned that Abu Zuhayr told us, from Muhammad ibn Kurayb, from his father, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "And do not follow the footsteps of Satan," he said: Whatever goes against [the truth] is of the footsteps of Satan.

7980 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "And do not follow the footsteps of Satan," [meaning] his footsteps, or he said: his sins.

7981 - Abu 'Abd Allah al-Tahrani told us, Hafs ibn 'Umar al-'Adani informed us, al-Hakam ibn Aban told us, from 'Ikrimah: "the footsteps of Satan," he said: The instigations (nazaghat) of Satan.
