8541 - My father told us, Qabisah ibn 'Uqbah told us, Sufyan told us, from 'Abd al-Karim, from Mujahid, he said: Every form of diversion is amusement.

His saying, the Almighty: "And the worldly life deluded them."

8542 - My father told us, Ahmad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman told us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ja'far told us, from his father, from al-Rabi', he said: They were deluded by what they used to fabricate.

[His saying, the Almighty: "So this day We will forget them as they forgot the meeting of this day of theirs."]

[The first interpretation]

8543 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "So this day We will forget them as they forgot the meeting of this day of theirs," he says: We shall leave them in the Fire just as they abandoned the meeting of this day of theirs.

It was narrated from Mujahid that he said: They are forgotten in the torment.

8544 - Al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan told us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah told us, Hajjaj told us, from Ibn Jurayj, from Mujahid: "We will forget them," means We will postpone them in the Fire.

8545 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman ibn Hakim al-Awdi informed me in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi: "So this day We will forget them as they forgot the meeting of this day of theirs," means We will abandon them from mercy.

The second interpretation:

8546 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed me in what he wrote to me, my father told me, my uncle told me, from my father, from his father, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "So this day We will forget them as they forgot the meeting of this day of theirs," he says: Allah forgot them concerning good, but He did not forget them concerning evil.

His saying, the Almighty: "As they forgot the meeting of this day of theirs."

8547 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj told us, Muhammad ibn 'Ubayd told us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak: "So this day We will forget them as they forgot the meeting of this day of theirs," he said: Just as you abandoned My command.

8548 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman informed me in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "So this day We will forget them as they forgot the meeting of this day of theirs," he said: Just as they neglected to act for the meeting of this day of theirs. It was narrated from Mujahid something similar.
