The second interpretation:
10002 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Ali ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Yahya ibn 'Abd Allah ibn al-Mubarak narrated to us, from Sharik, from Jabir, from Mujahid, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding “And they planned that which they could not attain,” he said: A man called al-Aswad planned to kill Muhammad (peace be upon him).
The third interpretation:
10003 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah narrated to us, Warqa' narrated to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: “The word of disbelief.” One of them said: “If what Muhammad says is true, then we are worse than donkeys.” A man from the believers said to him: “By Allah, he only speaks the truth, and you are indeed worse than a donkey.” So the hypocrite planned to kill him, and that is their planning for that which they could not attain.
The fourth interpretation:
10004 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Isma'il ibn Ibrahim al-Wasiti narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Yazid narrated to us, from Isma'il, from al-Suddi regarding “And they planned that which they could not attain,” he said: They wanted to crown 'Abd Allah ibn Ubayy, and they said: “Even if Muhammad (peace be upon him) is not pleased.”
His saying, the Almighty: “And they did not resent except that Allah and His Messenger had enriched them from His bounty.”

10005 - Ahmad ibn al-Hasan al-Baghdadi narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Sinan narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muslim al-Ta'ifi narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Dinar, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas: That the Prophet (peace be upon him) set the blood money (diyah) at twelve thousand, and that is His saying: “And they did not resent except that Allah and His Messenger had enriched them from His bounty.” He said: By their receiving the blood money.
10400 - (*) My father narrated to us, Yasarar ibn Safwan narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muslim al-Ta'ifi narrated to us, from 'Amr ibn Dinar, he said: I heard 'Ikrimah saying: A man from Banu 'Adi ibn Ka'b killed a man from the Ansar, and the Prophet (peace be upon him) decreed his blood money to be twelve thousand dirhams. He said: So Allah, the Mighty and Majestic, said: “And they did not resent except that Allah and His Messenger had enriched them from His bounty,” meaning: what they took of the blood money.
