[His saying, the Almighty: "They have mixed a righteous deed with another that was evil"]

10301 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn 'Abdah narrated to us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn 'Abd al-Samad al-'Ammi informed us, Abu Harun al-'Abdi narrated to us from Abu Sa'id al-Khudri, who said: We said: "O Messenger of Allah, what did you see on the night you were taken on the Night Journey (Isra')?" He said: "I saw my Ummah in two groups: a group upon whom were garments whiter than parchment, and a group upon whom were ashen garments. I asked: 'O Jibril, who are these?' He said: 'As for the companions of the ashen garments, they are those who mixed a righteous deed with another that was evil.'"
10302 - My father narrated to us, Ahmad ibn Hashim ibn al-Hakam al-Ramli narrated to us, Damrah ibn Rabi'ah narrated to us from Ibn Shawdhab, who said: Al-Ahnaf ibn Qays said: "I presented myself to the Qur'an and I did not find any verse more similar to my state than this verse: 'And others who have acknowledged their sins, they have mixed a righteous deed with another that was evil.'"
10303 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn 'Ali narrated to us, 'Amir ibn al-Furat narrated to us from Asbat from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And others who have acknowledged their sins, they have mixed a righteous deed with another that was evil," [he said]: The righteous deed was their fighting alongside the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace).

10304 - My father narrated to us, 'Abd Allah ibn Abi Ziyad al-Qatwani narrated to us, Sayyar narrated to us, Ja'far narrated to us from Malik—meaning Ibn Dinar—from al-Hasan, regarding His saying: "They have acknowledged their sins, they have mixed a righteous deed with another that was evil," he said: They repented.
[His saying, the Almighty: "And another that was evil"]
10305 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, al-Husayn ibn 'Ali narrated to us, 'Amir ibn al-Furat narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us from al-Suddi, regarding His saying: "And another that was evil," he said: The evil was their staying behind from the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace).
[His saying, the Almighty: "Perhaps Allah will accept their repentance. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving, Merciful"]
10306 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "Perhaps Allah will accept their repentance," [he said]: "Perhaps" from Allah is an obligation (i.e., it is certain). It was narrated from al-Dahhak, al-Hasan, Abu Malik, and al-Suddi similar to this.
[His saying, the Almighty: "Take from their wealth a charity"]
10307 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah from Ibn 'Abbas, who said: When "And others who have acknowledged their sins" was revealed, the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) sent for them.
