10657 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-A'la told us, Muhammad ibn Thawr told us, from Ma'mar, he said: I was informed from 'Ikrimah that Ibn 'Abbas said: "Unquestionably, they fold up their breasts," [meaning] doubt in Allah and doing evil deeds.
10658 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "They fold up their breasts": "They narrow them in doubt and disputation regarding the truth."
10659 - My father told us, 'Amr ibn 'Awn told us, Hushaym told us, from Husayn, he said: I heard 'Abd Allah ibn Shaddad regarding His saying: "Unquestionably, they fold up their breasts," he said: "When he was commanded regarding the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, he would cover his head and fold his chest, so that he would not see him."
10660 - Al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid al-Narsi informed us by way of reading, Muhammad ibn Shu'ayb ibn Shabur informed me, 'Uthman ibn 'Ata' informed me, from his father, 'Ata' ibn Abi Muslim al-Khurasani: As for "they fold up their breasts," it is said: "They lower their heads and hunch their chests."
10661 - My father told us, 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Munib told us, Abu Mu'adh al-Nahwi told us, from 'Ubayd ibn Sulayman, from al-Dahhak regarding His saying: "Unquestionably, they fold up their breasts," he says: "Their chests twist."
10662 - Abu Zur'ah mentioned it, Nasr ibn 'Ali told us, Abu Harun al-Nahwi told us, from Hisham, from al-Hasan: "Unquestionably, they fold up their breasts," he said: "The whispers of the soul."
His saying, the Almighty: "So that they may hide from Him"

10663 - Al-Husayn ibn al-Hasan told us, Ibrahim ibn 'Abd Allah al-Harawi told us, al-Hajjaj told us, he said: Ibn Jurayj said: I heard Muhammad ibn 'Abbad ibn Ja'far say: I heard Ibn 'Abbas recite: "Unquestionably, they fold up their breasts," so I asked him about it, he said: "There were people who were shy to relieve themselves, so they would be exposed to the sky, and to approach their wives, so they would be exposed; then this was revealed regarding them."

١٠٦٥٧ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ عَبْدِ الأَعْلَى، ثنا مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ ثَوْرٍ، عَنْ مَعْمَرٍ قَالَ أُخْبِرْتُ، عَنْ عِكْرِمَةَ أَنَّ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ قَالَ: أَلا إِنَّهُمْ يَثْنُونَ صُدُورَهُمْ الشَّكُّ فِي اللَّهِ وَعَمَلُ السَّيِّئَاتِ.
١٠٦٥٨ - حَدَّثَنَا حَجَّاجُ بْنُ حَمْزَةَ، ثنا شَبَابَةُ، ثنا وَرْقَاءُ، عَنِ ابْنِ أَبِي نَجِيحٍ، عَنْ مُجَاهِدٍ قَوْلُهُ: يَثْنُونَ صُدُورَهُمْ: تَضِيقُ شَكًا وَامْتِرَاءً فِي الْحَقِّ.
١٠٦٥٩ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا عَمْرُو بْنُ عَوْنٍ، ثنا هُشَيْمٌ، عَنْ حُصَيْنٍ قَالَ: سَمِعْتُ عَبْدَ اللَّهِ بْنَ شَدَّادٍ فِي قَوْلِهِ: أَلا إِنَّهُمْ يَثْنُونَ صُدُورَهُمْ قَالَ: كان إذا أمر بِرَسُولِ اللَّهِ صَلَّى اللَّهُ عَلَيْهِ وَسَلَّمَ غَطَّى رَأْسَهُ وَثَنَى صَدْرَهُ لأَنَّهُ لَا يَرَاهُ.
١٠٦٦٠ - أَخْبَرَنَا الْعَبَّاسُ بْنُ الْوَلِيدِ النَّرْسِيُّ قِرَاءَةً، أَخْبَرَنِي مُحَمَّدُ بْنُ شُعَيْبِ بْنِ شَابُورَ أَخْبَرَنِي عُثْمَانُ بْنُ عَطَاءٍ، عَنْ أَبِيهِ عَطَاءِ بْنِ أَبِي مُسْلِمٍ الْخُرَاسَانِيِّ: أَمَّا يَثْنُونَ صُدُورَهُمْ فَيُقَالُ: يُطَأْطِئُونَ رُءُوسَهُمْ وَيَحْنُونَ صُدُورَهُمْ.
١٠٦٦١ - حَدَّثَنَا أَبِي، ثنا عَبْدُ الْعَزِيزِ بْنُ مُنِيبٍ، ثنا أَبُو مُعَاذٍ النحوي، عن عبيد ابن سُلَيْمَانَ، عَنِ الضَّحَّاكِ فِي قَوْلِهِ: أَلا إِنَّهُمْ يثنون صدورهم يَقُولُ: تَلْتَوِي صُدُورَهُمْ.
١٠٦٦٢ - ذَكَرَهُ أَبُو زُرْعَةَ، ثنا نَصْرُ بْنُ عَلِيٍّ، ثنا أَبُو هَارُونَ النَّحْوِيُّ، عَنْ هِشَامٍ، عَنِ الْحَسَنِ أَلا إِنَّهُمْ يَثْنُونَ صُدُورَهُمْ قَالَ: حَدِيثُ النَّفْسِ.

١٠٦٦٣ - حَدَّثَنَا الْحُسَيْنُ بْنُ الْحَسَنِ، ثنا إِبْرَاهِيمُ بْنُ عَبْدِ اللَّهِ الْهَرَوِيُّ، ثنا الْحَجَّاجُ قَالَ: قَالَ ابْنُ جُرَيْجٍ: سَمِعْتُ مُحَمَّدَ بْنَ عَبَّادِ بْنِ جَعْفَرٍ يَقُولُ: سَمِعْتُ ابْنَ عَبَّاسٍ يَقْرَأُ: أَلا إِنَّهُمْ يَثْنُونَ صُدُورَهُمْ فَسَأَلْتُهُ، عَنْهَا قَالَ: كَانَ أُنَاسٌ يَسْتَحْيُونَ أَنْ يَتَخَلَّوْا فَيُفْضُوا فِي السَّمَاءِ، وَأَنْ يُصِيبُوا نِسَاءَهُمْ، فَيُفْضُوا فَنَزَلَ ذَلِكَ فِيهِمْ.
