‘Arubah, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Unquestionably, they fold up their breasts so that they may hide from Him." He said: "They used to hunch their chests so they would not hear the Book of Allah. And just as it was mentioned, the Almighty said: 'Unquestionably, at the time they cover themselves with their clothing, He knows what they conceal and what they declare.' And that is when the son of Adam is most hidden, when he hunches his back, conceals what he has, and keeps his worry hidden within his soul; for indeed, nothing is hidden from Allah."

10665 - ‘Abd Allah ibn Sulayman told us, al-Hasan ibn ‘Ali told us, ‘Amir ibn al-Furat told us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "So that they may hide from Him," [meaning] so that they may conceal themselves.

[The Third Aspect:]

10666 - My father told us, Abu Hawdhah ibn Khalifah told us, ‘Awf told us, from al-Hasan regarding His saying: "Unquestionably, they fold up their breasts so that they may hide from Him," and it is from their ignorance of Him.

His saying, the Almighty: "From Him"

10667 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa’ told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "So that they may hide from Him," he said: "From Allah, if they are able."

His saying, the Almighty: "Unquestionably, at the time they cover themselves with their clothing"

10668 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih told us, from ‘Ali ibn Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "They cover themselves with their clothing," he says: "They cover their heads."

10669 - Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj told us, Waki‘ told us, from Sufyan, from Mansur, from Abu Razin regarding: "At the time they cover themselves with their clothing," he said: "He would hunch his back and cover himself with his garment."

10670 - ‘Abd Allah ibn Sulayman told us, al-Husayn ibn ‘Ali told us, ‘Amir ibn al-Furat told us, from Asbat, from al-Suddi regarding "they cover themselves with their clothing," [meaning] they put on their garments and cover themselves with them over their heads.

His saying, the Almighty: "He knows what they conceal and what they declare"

10671 - Muhammad ibn Sa‘id al-‘Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, my father told me, my paternal uncle told us, my father told us, from his father, from Ibn ‘Abbas regarding His saying: "He knows what they conceal and what they declare," he says: "So act by night and by day."
