10717 - My father told us, Hisham ibn Khalid told us, Shu‘ayb ibn Ishaq told us, Sa‘id ibn Abi ‘Arubah told us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "Indeed, he is despairing and ungrateful." He says: If he is tested with a trial, he does not show patience regarding it.
His saying, the Exalted: "But if We give him a taste of favor after hardship has touched him, he will surely say, 'Bad times have left me.' Indeed, he is exultant and boastful."
Meaning: When it is bestowed upon him, he takes that with exultation.
His saying, the Exalted: "Except for those who are patient and do righteous deeds."
10718 - Ibn al-Mubarak informed us with his known chain of narration, from Ibn Jurayj regarding His saying, the Mighty and Majestic: "Except for those who are patient," he says: At the time of a trial.
10719 - And through the same chain, from Ibn Jurayj regarding His saying: "and do righteous deeds": At the time of a blessing.
10720 - My father told us, Ahmad ibn Isma‘il ibn Abi Dirar told us, Isma‘il ibn Abi Uways told us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Nafi‘ al-Sa’igh told us, from ‘Asim ibn ‘Umar, from Zayd ibn Aslam regarding "and do righteous deeds": The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them).
His saying, the Exalted: "Those will have forgiveness."
10721 - My father told us, Hisham ibn Khalid told us, Shu‘ayb ibn Ishaq told us, Sa‘id ibn Abi ‘Arubah told us, from Qatadah regarding "Those will have forgiveness," he says: Forgiveness for their sins.
His saying, the Exalted: "And a great reward."
10722 - And through the same chain, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And a great reward": For their good deeds, and that is Paradise.
His saying, the Exalted: "Then would you possibly leave [out] some of what is revealed to you" to His saying: "a warner."
10723 - ‘Ali ibn al-Mubarak informed us with his known chain of narration, from Ibn Jurayj regarding His saying: "Then would you possibly leave [out] some of what is revealed to you": [Meaning] that you should act accordingly as you have been commanded, and call to it as you have been sent.
10724 - Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj told us, Ibn Numayr told us, al-A‘mash told us, from ‘Amr ibn Murrah, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr, from Ibn ‘Abbas, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) said: "O Children of ‘Abd al-Muttalib, O Children of Fihr, O Children of—tell me, if I were to inform you that cavalry were at the foot of this mountain intending to raid you, would you believe me?" They said: "Yes." He said: "Then I am a warner to you before a severe punishment."
