His saying, the Exalted: "And they were not seeing"
10790 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn ‘Abd al-A‘la told us, Muhammad ibn Thawr told us, from Ma‘mar, from Qatadah, [regarding] "They were not able to hear and they were not seeing," he said: "They were not able to hear good so as to benefit from it, nor to see good so as to take hold of it."
His saying, the Exalted: "Those are the ones who have lost themselves"
10791 - Ahmad ibn ‘Uthman ibn Hakim informed us in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn al-Mufaddal told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi, regarding His saying, the Mighty and Majestic: "Those are the ones who have lost themselves," he said: "They defrauded their own selves."
His saying, the Exalted: "And lost from them"
10792 - Abu Zur‘ah told us, Minjab ibn al-Harith told us, Bishr told us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas, [regarding] His saying: "And lost from them," he said: "[This will be] on the Day of Resurrection."
His saying, the Exalted: "What they used to fabricate"
[The first interpretation]
10793 - And by the same chain, from Ibn ‘Abbas, [regarding] "What they used to fabricate": "What they used to lie about in the world."
The second interpretation:
10794 - Muhammad ibn Yahya told us, al-‘Abbas told us, Yazid told us, al-‘Abbas told us, Yazid told us, Sa‘id told us, from Qatadah, [regarding] His saying: "What they used to fabricate," meaning: "They used to associate partners [with Allah]."
His saying, the Exalted: "No doubt, that they in the Hereafter will be the greatest losers"
10795 - My father told us, Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, told us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih told us, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, [regarding] His saying: "No doubt (la jarama)," he says: "Certainly."
His saying, the Exalted: "And humbled themselves to their Lord"
[The first interpretation]
10796 - And by the same chain, from Ibn ‘Abbas, [regarding] His saying: "And humbled themselves (wa akhbatu)," he says: "They feared."
And the second interpretation:
10797 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, [regarding] His saying: "And humbled themselves (wa akhbatu) to their Lord," he said: "They found tranquility."
