الترجمة · EN

His saying, Exalted is He: "Say, if your fathers and your sons"

10081 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, narrated to us, al-Layth ibn Sa'd narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Nashit al-Wa'lani narrated to us from 'Ali ibn Buhayr al-Ma'afiri, that a man wanted to engage in Jihad in the way of Allah, but his mother prevented him. He went to 'Amr ibn Yazid al-Khawlani to ask him about that, so 'Amr ibn Yazid said to him: Recite: "Say, if your fathers, your sons, your brothers, your spouses, your kindred, wealth which you have acquired, and commerce you fear will decline..." to the end of the verse.

10082 - My father narrated to us, al-Qasim ibn 'Uthman al-Jaw'i narrated to us, 'Ubayd ibn 'Ayyash narrated to us from 'Ali ibn Bakkar from Ibn 'Awn, who said: When someone consulted him regarding going out for military expedition while having both parents, he would recite this verse to him: "Say, if your fathers and your sons..." to the end of the verse, then he would remain silent and would not say to him: "Go out" nor "Stay behind."

His saying, Exalted is He: "And wealth which you have acquired"

10083 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, al-'Abbas ibn al-Walid informed us, Yazid ibn Zuray' narrated to us from Sa'id from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "And wealth which you have acquired," he says: Which you have gained.

10084 - Musa ibn Harun al-Tusi informed us, in what he wrote to me, al-Husayn ibn Muhammad al-Marwudhi narrated to us, Shayban narrated to us from Qatadah: "And wealth which you have acquired," he said: Which you have seized.

His saying, Exalted is He: "And commerce you fear will decline"

10085 - Ahmad ibn 'Uthman informed me, in what he wrote to me, Ahmad ibn Mufaddal narrated to us, Asbat narrated to us from al-Suddi regarding His saying: "And commerce you fear will decline," he says: You fear that it will become stagnant, so you sell it.

His saying, Exalted is He: "And dwellings you are pleased with [are] more beloved to you than Allah and His Messenger"

10086 - And through the same chain from al-Suddi, regarding "And dwellings you are pleased with," he said: They are the palaces and houses.

His saying, Exalted is He: "And fighting in His way"

10087 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn 'Ali narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim informed us, from Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf from Muqatil ibn Hayyan: "And fighting in His way," meaning: the migration to the Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him; he commands them regarding it.
