His saying, the Exalted: "And O my people, ask forgiveness of your Lord."
10960 - Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la informed us, Sufyan ibn 'Uyaynah told us, from Mutarrif, from al-Sha'bi, who said: 'Umar ibn al-Khattab went out to seek forgiveness, but he did not exceed the act of seeking forgiveness until he returned. They said: "We did not see you seek rain?" He said: "I sought rain with the celestial manifestations of the sky by which rain is brought down." Then he recited: "And O my people, ask forgiveness of your Lord and repent to Him. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in showers and increase you in strength [added] to your strength."
His saying, the Exalted: "He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in showers."
10961 - Sulayman ibn Dawud al-Qazzaz told us, Ishaq ibn Sulayman told us, he said: I heard Abu 'Aish, from Harun al-Taymi, regarding His saying: "He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in showers," he said: The rain.
His saying, the Exalted: "In showers."
10962 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "In showers," he said: Following one another.
10963 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told us, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Yazid ibn Aslam saying regarding the saying of Allah: "He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in showers," he said: He will pour out upon them rain after rain.
His saying, the Exalted: "And increase you in strength [added] to your strength" - the verse.

10964 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "And increase you in strength [added] to your strength," he said: Intensity [added] to your intensity.
10965 - Abu Yazid al-Qaratisi informed us in what he wrote to me, Asbagh ibn al-Faraj told me, he said: I heard 'Abd al-Rahman ibn Zayd ibn Aslam regarding His saying: "And increase you in strength [added] to your strength," he said: He granted them strength, so if they had obeyed Him, He would have increased them in strength [added] to their strength.

10966 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-Rahman al-Ju'fi, brother of Husayn al-Ju'fi, told us, Talq ibn Ghannam told us, from Qays ibn al-Rabi', from Khusayf, from 'Ikrimah, regarding His saying: "[Added] to your strength," he said: The children of children [descendants].
