His saying, the Exalted: "They said, 'Do you wonder at the command of God? The mercy of God and His blessings upon you.'"

11031 - Bahr ibn Nasr al-Khawlani told us, Ibn Wahb told us, Ibn Jurayj informed me that 'Ata' ibn Abi Rabah told him that Ibn 'Abbas came to them one day in a gathering and greeted them, saying: "Peace be upon you, and the mercy of God and His blessings." I said: "And upon you be peace, and the mercy of God, His blessings, and His forgiveness." He said: "Who is this?" I said: "'Ata'." He said: "Pay attention to [the phrase] 'and His blessings'." He said: Then he recited: "The mercy of God and His blessings upon you, O people of the House. Indeed, He is Praiseworthy, Glorious."

His saying, the Exalted: "Then when fear had left Abraham."

11032 - Hajjaj ibn Hamzah told us, Shababah told us, Warqa' told us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding God's saying: "al-raw'" (fear): The terror.

11033 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Safwan told us, al-Walid told us, Sa'id told us, from Qatadah regarding God's saying: "Then when fear had left Abraham," meaning: the dread.

His saying, the Exalted: "And the glad tidings reached him."

11034 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Nasr ibn 'Ali told us, 'Abd al-Wahhab told us, from Dawud, from 'Ikrimah, meaning His saying: "The glad tidings": He was given glad tidings of his prophethood.

11035 - My father told us, Hisham ibn Khalid told us, Shu'ayb ibn Ishaq told us, Sa'id ibn Abi 'Arubah told us, from Qatadah: "And the glad tidings reached him" of Isaac.

11036 - My father told us, Muhammad ibn 'Abd al-A'la told us, Muhammad ibn Thawr told us, from Ma'mar, from Qatadah: "And the glad tidings reached him" when they informed him that they were sent to the people of Lot.

His saying, the Exalted: "He argued with Us concerning the people of Lot."

11037 - Yahya ibn 'Abdak al-Qazwini told us, al-Muqri' told us, Sulayman ibn al-Mughirah told us, from Humayd ibn Hilal, from Jundub ibn 'Abd Allah, from Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman: "And the glad tidings reached him; he argued with Us concerning the people of Lot," he said: The arguing with God on their behalf was that he asked: "If there were fifty Muslims among them, would You destroy them?" They said: "No." He said: "Then forty?" They said: "No." He said: It went down to ten or five (Humayd was uncertain).
