strong support.” Then Gabriel turned to him and said: “Do not fear, indeed we are messengers of your Lord; they will never reach you.” He said: When they drew near, he obliterated their eyes, so they departed blind, bumping into one another, until when they reached those who were at the door, they said: “We have come to you from the side of the most magical of people; our sights have been obliterated.” He said: So they departed, bumping into one another until they entered the city. It was in the dead of night, and it [the destruction] occurred, such that they could even hear the sound of the birds in the sky. Then it was overturned upon them; whoever was struck by the overthrow perished, and whoever went out from it, I followed him wherever he was, and it killed him.

11081 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn told us, Muhammad ibn 'Isa told us, Salamah told us, from Ibn Ishaq: They said: “O Lot, indeed we are messengers of your Lord; they will never reach you” to anything you dislike.

11082 - Abu Zur'ah told us, 'Amr ibn Hammad told us, Asbat told us, from al-Suddi regarding “So set out with your family,” he says: Pass with them, and follow behind your family.

11083 - My father told us, Abu Salih told us, Mu'awiyah ibn Salih told me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: “in a portion of the night”: A darkness of the night.

11084 - My father told us, Hisham ibn Khalid told us, Shu'ayb ibn Ishaq told us, Sa'id ibn Abi 'Arubah told us, from Qatadah regarding His saying: “in a portion of the night,” meaning: with a segment of the night, meaning darkness.

11085 - 'Ali ibn al-Husayn al-Hisinjani told us, Sa'id ibn Abi Maryam told us, al-Mufaddal ibn Fadalah told us, from Abu Sakhr regarding His saying: “So set out with your family in a portion of the night,” he said: The early dawn.

His saying, the Exalted: “And let not any among you look back, except your wife.”

11086 - Abu Zur'ah told us, Minjab ibn al-Harith told us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah told us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: “And let not any among you look back,” he said: And let not any among you stay behind.
