The Second Aspect:
10351 - My father narrated to us, Abu Salih narrated to us, Mu‘awiyah ibn Salih narrated to us, from ‘Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn ‘Abbas, [regarding] "Charities are only for the poor," [that he said]: The poor among the Muslims.
The Third Aspect:
10352 - My father narrated to us, ‘Arim ibn al-Fadl narrated to us, Hammad ibn Zayd narrated to us, from Ayyub, from Muhammad, who said: ‘Umar said: The poor is not the one who has no wealth, but rather the poor is the one who is unable to earn.
The Fourth Aspect:
10353 - My father narrated to us, Safwan ibn Salih narrated to us, al-Walid ibn Muslim narrated to us, Ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to us, from Abu Qabil, who said: I heard Yazid ibn Qasit al-Saksaki say: While we were with Ibn ‘Umar, a man came to him and asked him [for help]. He said: Go with him to the man. Then he said: Do you consider this man poor? I said: No, by Allah, he only asked because of poverty. He said: He is not poor who gathers a dirham with a dirham, nor a date with a date. The poor is the one who keeps his clothes and himself clean, [who] cannot find enough for self-sufficiency. "The ignorant person thinks them wealthy because of their restraint."
10354 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, Abu Ahmad al-Zubayri narrated to us, Ma‘qil ibn ‘Ubayd Allah al-Jazari narrated to us, who said: I asked al-Zuhri about [the verse] "Charities are only for the poor." He said: The poor are those who are in their houses and do not ask [for help].
10355 - My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn ‘Ammar narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Shu‘ayb ibn Bukayr narrated to us, Ma‘ruf narrated to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding the saying of Allah, the Mighty and Majestic: "Charities are only for the poor," he said: Those who are restrained from among the needy who do not ask.
The Fifth Aspect:
10356 - It was mentioned from Sahl ibn ‘Uthman, al-Muharibi narrated to us, from Ash‘ath, from al-Hasan, regarding His saying: "Charities are only for the poor," he said: The poor is the one who asks.
The Sixth Aspect:
10357 - Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Abu Nu‘aym narrated to us, from Mansur, from Ibrahim [regarding] "Charities are only for the poor."
