12187 - Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj narrated to us, ‘Abdah narrated to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn ‘Abbas, regarding "For him are successive [angels] before and behind him," he said: They are the angels who succeed each other by night and by day, writing down the deeds of the son of Adam.
12188 - Al-‘Abbas ibn al-Walid ibn Mu‘ayyad informed us, by the reading of my brother Muhammad ibn Shu‘ayb, ‘Uthman ibn ‘Ata’ informed me, from his father, regarding "For him are successive [angels] before and behind him," he said: It is said they are the noble scribes, protectors from Allah over the son of Adam, who were commanded to do that.

12190 - My father narrated to us, ‘Ubayd Allah ibn Mu‘adh narrated to us, my father narrated to us, Shu‘bah narrated to us, from Sharik, from ‘Ikrimah, regarding "For him are successive [angels] before and behind him, protecting him by the command of Allah," he said: This applies to rulers.
