[Surah Ibrahim]
His saying, the Exalted: "[They] love"
12205 - From Abu Malik (may Allah be pleased with him), regarding His saying: "[They] love" [yastahibbun], he said: They choose.
His saying, the Exalted: "And We did not send any messenger except in the language of his people"
12206 - From Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said: Indeed, Allah favored Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) over the inhabitants of the heavens and over the prophets (peace and blessings be upon them). It was said: How did He favor him over the inhabitants of the heavens? He said: Indeed, Allah said to the inhabitants of the heavens: "And whoever among them should say, 'Indeed, I am a god besides Him'—that one We would recompense with Hell." And He said to Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): "That Allah may forgive for you what preceded of your sin and what will follow," and thus wrote for him an acquittal from the Fire. It was said to him: And how did He favor him over the prophets? He said: Indeed, Allah the Exalted says: "And We did not send any messenger except in the language of his people," and He said to Muhammad (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): "And We have not sent you except as a bringer of good tidings and a warner to mankind," so He sent him to both humans and jinn.
12207 - From Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him), regarding His saying: "And We did not send any messenger except in the language of his people," he said: In the tongue of his people. If he was an Arab, then in Arabic; if he was a non-Arab, then in a non-Arabic language; if he was a Syriac speaker, then in Syriac, so that he could clarify to them what Allah had sent to them, in order to establish the proof against them thereby.
12208 - From Sufyan al-Thawri (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: No revelation was sent down except in Arabic, then every prophet would translate it for his people in their tongue. He said: And the tongue on the Day of Resurrection is Syriac, and whoever enters Paradise will speak in Arabic.
12209 - From ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with him), he said: Do not eat the slaughtered animal of the Magians, nor the slaughtered animal of the Christians of the Arabs. Do you consider them People of the Book? For they are not People of the Book. Allah the Exalted says: "And We did not send any messenger except in the language of his people to make clear to them," and He only sent ‘Isa (peace be upon him)
