From 'Ikrimah (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding His saying: 'Like a good tree,' he said: It is the date palm tree; there is always something in it from which one benefits, either fruit or firewood. 12258 - From 'Ikrimah (may Allah be pleased with him), that he was asked about a man who swore that he would not do such and such for a 'while' (hin), so he said: Verily, of the 'while' (hin) there is a 'while' that is measurable, and of the 'while' there is a 'while' that is not measurable. The 'while' that is not measurable is His saying: 'And you will surely know its information after a while' (38:88). And the 'while' that is measurable is 'it gives its fruit all the time (hin) by permission of its Lord,' and that is from the time the date palm is harvested until the time it blooms, and that is six months (7).
12259 - From Sa'id ibn al-Musayyab, he said: A 'while' (hin) can be two months, and the date palm only carries its fruit for two months.
From Qatadah (may Allah be pleased with him) regarding 'it gives its fruit all the time,' he said: Its fruit is eaten in winter and summer (8).
