and you reside in them. "And Allah made for you from the skins of the cattle houses"—which are the tents of the Bedouins—"which you find light"—he says: in terms of carrying—"and [provided] a provision for a while," he said: until death.
His saying, the Almighty: "Which you find light on the day of your journey"
12615 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "Which you find light on the day of your journey," he said: Some of the travelers' houses, their construction [takes only] an hour. And regarding His saying: "And their wool," he said: Camels, "and their fur," he said: Sheep.
His saying, the Almighty: "[And] household goods"
12616 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "[And] household goods," he said: The 'athath' (household goods) is wealth. "And a provision for a while," he says: You derive benefit from it for a while.
His saying, the Almighty: "And Allah has made for you, from what He has created, shadows"
12617 - From Qatadah, may Allah be pleased with him, regarding His saying: "And Allah has made for you, from what He has created, shadows," he said: From trees and other things. "And has made for you from the mountains, shelters," he said: Caves in which one resides. "And has made for you garments to protect you from the heat," from cotton, linen, and wool, "and garments to protect you from your [enemy in] battle," from iron. "Thus does He complete His favor upon you that you might submit." And for this reason, this surah is called the Surah of Blessings.
His saying, the Almighty: "That you might submit"
12618 - Through the chain of al-Kisa'i, from Hamzah, from al-A'mash, Abu Bakr, and Asim, that they recited "that you might submit" (li-la'allakum tuslimun) with a damma on the ta' (tu) from the verb "aslamtu."
His saying, the Almighty: "Garments to protect you from the heat"
12619 - From Ibn Abbas, may Allah be pleased with them both, regarding His saying: "Garments to protect you from the heat," he said: He means clothing. "And garments to protect you from your [enemy in] battle," he said: He means coats of mail and weapons. "Thus does He complete His favor upon you that you might submit," he means: from wounds. Ibn Abbas used to read it as "tuslimun" (you submit).
12620 - From Mujahid, may Allah be pleased with him: That a Bedouin came to the Prophet, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, and asked him; so the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings of Allah be upon him, recited to him: "And Allah has made for you from your homes a place of rest."
