His saying: "And they will say, 'Woe to us!"
12840 - From Qatada regarding His saying: "And they will say, 'Woe to us!'"—the verse—he said: "The people will complain as you hear. [They will present] the record, and no one will complain of injustice. So beware of minor sins, for they accumulate upon their possessor until they destroy him."
12841 - From Sufyan al-Thawri regarding the verse, he said: "They will be questioned even about smiling, for it will be said: 'Why did you smile on such and such a day?'"
His saying: "Except for Iblis, he was of the jinn."
12842 - From Qatada regarding His saying: "Except for Iblis, he was of the jinn," he said: "He was from a tribe of the angels called 'the jinn.' Ibn Abbas used to say: 'Had he not been from the angels, he would not have been commanded to prostrate, and he was over the treasuries of the lowest heaven.'"
12843 - From al-Hasan, he said: "May Allah fight a people who claim that Iblis was one of the angels of Allah, while Allah the Almighty says: 'He was of the jinn.'"
12844 - From Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "He was of the jinn," he said: "[He was] one of the keepers of Paradise."
12845 - From Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "He was of the jinn," he said: "They are a tribe of the angels who never cease forging the ornaments of the people of Paradise until the Hour is established."
12846 - From Ibn Shihab regarding His saying: "Except for Iblis, he was of the jinn," he said: "Iblis is the father of the jinn, just as Adam is the father of mankind. Adam is from mankind and is their father, and Iblis is from the jinn and is their father. This became clear to people when Allah said: 'Will you take him and his descendants as allies other than Me?'"
12847 - From Shahr ibn Hawshab, he said: "Iblis was from the jinn whom the angels had expelled, so some of the angels captured him and took him to heaven."
His saying: "So he disobeyed the command of his Lord."
12848 - From Mujahid regarding His saying: "So he disobeyed the command of his Lord," he said: "[This was] in regard to prostrating to Adam."
