11478 - Ahmad ibn 'Isam narrated to us, Wahb ibn Jarir narrated to us, my father narrated to us, he said: I heard Ibn Abi Mulaykah say: It was said to Ibn 'Abbas: How far did the determination of Yusuf go? He said: He untied the drawstring of his trousers and sat in that position with her, then Ya'qub appeared to him on the ceiling of the house, biting his thumb, so Allah extracted every desire that was in his body, and he went out rushing toward the door of the house.

11479 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Minjab narrated to us, Bishr ibn 'Umarah reported to us, from Abu Rawq, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding His saying: "Had he not seen the proof of his Lord," he said: He saw the image of his father, Ya'qub, in the middle of the house, biting his thumb, so he turned away fleeing, and he said: "By Your right, O my father, I will never return to this ever."

11480 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, Ibn 'Ulayyah narrated to us, from Yunus, from al-Hasan, regarding "Had he not seen the proof of his Lord," he said: He saw Ya'qub biting his fingers, saying: "Yusuf! Yusuf!"

11481 - My father narrated to us, Mahmud ibn Khalid narrated to us, 'Umar ibn 'Abd al-Wahid narrated to us, from al-Awza'i, he said: Ibn 'Abbas used to say regarding this verse: "And she certainly determined [to seduce] him, and he would have inclined to her, had he not seen the proof of his Lord," he said: He saw a sign from the Book of Allah that forbade him, which was represented to him on a wall, and that is the proof that he saw.

11482 - My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn Khalid narrated to us, Shu'ayb ibn Ishaq narrated to us, Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, regarding His saying: "Had he not seen the proof of his Lord": He saw a sign from the signs of his Lord, by which Allah restrained him from disobeying Him.

11483 - Abu Zur'ah narrated to us, Safwan narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Khulayd and Sa'id narrated to us, from Qatadah, he said: Ya'qub appeared to him biting his two fingers, and he was saying to him: "O Yusuf, do you commit the act of the foolish, while you are written among the prophets?" That was the proof, so Allah extracted every desire that was in his joints.

11484 - al-Mundhir ibn Shadhan narrated to us, Ya'la ibn 'Ubayd narrated to us, Muhammad ibn 'Awn al-Khurasani narrated to us, he said: I asked Muhammad ibn Sirin about the saying of Allah: "Had he not seen the proof of his Lord," he said: Ya'qub appeared to him biting his two fingers, saying: "Yusuf ibn Ya'qub ibn Ishaq ibn Ibrahim, the Khalil of the Most Merciful, your name is among the prophets, and you commit the act of the foolish."
