His saying: "And there was a treasure beneath it for them."
12930 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "And there was a treasure beneath it for them," he said: "The treasure belonged to those before us and was forbidden to us. War spoils were forbidden to those before us and made lawful for us, so do not be surprised at a man who says: 'What is the matter with the treasure? It was lawful for those before us and forbidden to us?' For Allah makes lawful of His command what He wills and forbids what He wills. These are the laws and obligations... some are made lawful for one nation and forbidden to another."
His saying: "And your father was a righteous man."
12931 - From Khaythamah, he said: 'Isa ibn Maryam (peace be upon him) said: "Good tidings to the offspring of the believer, then good tidings to them, as to how they are protected after him." And Khaythamah recited: "And your father was a righteous man."
12932 - Through the chain of Shaybah, from Sulayman ibn Salim ibn Salamah, he said: "It is written in the Torah: 'Indeed, Allah protects the generation after the generation up to seven generations, and indeed Allah destroys the generation after the generation up to seven generations.'"
His saying: "And I did not do it of my own accord."
12933 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "And I did not do it of my own accord," he said: "He was a servant under command who proceeded by the command of Allah."
12934 - Abu Sa'id told me, he said: I heard that the last words al-Khidr enjoined upon Musa when he parted from him were: "Beware of reproachful treatment of an evildoer for his evil deed, lest you be tested."
His saying: "They ask you about Dhu al-Qarnayn, say: 'I will narrate to you a report of him.'"
12935 - From al-Suddi, he said: The Jews said to the Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace): "O Muhammad, you only mention Ibrahim, Musa, 'Isa, and the prophets because you heard their mention from us. So inform us of a prophet whom Allah did not mention in the Torah except in one place." He asked: "Who is he?" They replied: "Dhu al-Qarnayn." He said: "Nothing has reached me about him." They left rejoicing, thinking they had prevailed, but they had not reached the door of the house before Jibril descended with these verses: "They ask you about Dhu al-Qarnayn, say: 'I will narrate to you a report of him.'"
