12987 - From Qatadah regarding His saying: "Then when the promise of my Lord comes, He will make it level with the ground," he said: "I do not know if he means the two mountains or what is between them."

12988 - From al-Suddi, he said: Ali b. Abi Talib said: "Indeed, Gog and Magog are behind the barrier. No man among them dies until a thousand are born from his loins. They go to the barrier every day and lick it until they make it like an eggshell. Then they say: 'We shall return tomorrow and pierce it.' So they wake up and it has returned to the state it was in before they licked it. They continue in this manner until a Muslim child is born among them. When they go to lick it, he says to them: 'Say: In the name of Allah.' When they say: 'In the name of Allah,' and then intend to return when evening falls, they say: 'We shall return tomorrow and pierce it.' So they wake up and it has returned to what it was, and he says: 'Say: If Allah wills.' So they say: 'If Allah wills.'

They wake up and it is like an eggshell, so they pierce it and emerge from it upon the people. The first of them to emerge will be seventy thousand wearing crowns. Then they will emerge in groups after that. They will come to a river—he means the Euphrates—and drink it until nothing of it remains. Then a group from them will come until they reach it and say: 'There was water here once.' And that is the saying of Allah: "Then when the promise of my Lord comes, He will make it level with the ground." The "dak" is the earth, and "The promise of my Lord will be true."

12989 - From Ka'b, he said: "Indeed, Gog and Magog peck at the barrier with their beaks, until when they are about to pierce it, they say: 'We shall return to it tomorrow and finish it.' So they return to it and it has returned as it was. They keep returning, and when the matter reaches its [appointed] time, it is cast upon some of their tongues, and they say: 'We shall come, if Allah wills, tomorrow, and we shall finish it.' So they come to it, and it is as it was, and they pierce it and emerge. The first of them comes to the lake and drinks whatever water was in it. Then those in the middle come to it and lick whatever mud was in it. Then the last of them come to it and say: 'There was water here once.' They shoot their arrows towards the sky, and they return stained with blood. They say: 'We have conquered those on earth and gained dominance over those in the sky.' Then Jesus, son of Mary, invokes [Allah] against them and says:"
