- From Mujahid regarding His saying: "You have brought something fariyya (unprecedented/fabricated)," he said: "Great (enormous)."
- From Sa'id ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz who said: During the time of the Children of Israel in Jerusalem, there was a spring near the Spring of Siloam. When a woman committed adultery, they would bring her to it and she would drink from it; if she were innocent, it would not harm her, otherwise she would die. When Mary became pregnant, they brought her to it on a mule, but it stumbled with her, so she prayed to Allah that He render its womb barren, and it became barren from that day on. When she arrived at it, she drank from it and it only increased her in goodness. Then she prayed to Allah that no believing woman be disgraced by it, so the spring dried up.
- From al-Mughirah ibn Shu'bah who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent me to the people of Najran, and they said: "Do you see what you recite? 'O sister of Aaron,' while Moses was before Jesus by such and such time?" He said: So I returned and mentioned that to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him). He said: "Did you not tell them that they were named after the prophets and the righteous who were before them?"
- From Sufyan regarding His saying: "O sister of Aaron," he said: We heard that it was a name that happened to coincide with a name.
(bis) - From 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah regarding His saying: "O sister of Aaron," he said: She was attributed to Aaron ibn 'Imran because she was from his lineage, just as you would say, "O brother of the Ansar."
- From al-Suddi who said: She was from the lineage of Aaron, so it was said to her: "O sister of Aaron," and she was called to his lineage, like a man saying to a man: "O brother of Banu Layth," "O brother of so-and-so's tribe."
- From Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "O sister of Aaron," he said: Aaron was from a wicked, adulterous people, so they attributed her to them.
- From Abu Bakr ibn 'Ayyash who said: In the recitation of Ubayy, it says: "O dweller of the cradle."
His saying, the Almighty: "Then she pointed to him. They said: 'How can we speak to one who is in the cradle as a child?'"
- From Qatadah regarding His saying: "Then she pointed to him," he said: She commanded them to speak to him. And regarding His saying: "in the cradle," he said: "In the lap."
