The Saying of the Exalted: "And We have certainly given you from Us a Message."
13518 - From Abu Zayd regarding His saying: "And We have certainly given you from Us a Message," he said: The Qur'an.
The Saying of the Exalted: "[He] will bear on the Day of Resurrection a burden."
13519 - From Mujahid regarding His saying: "[He] will bear on the Day of Resurrection a burden," he said: A sin.
The Saying of the Exalted: "And evil it is for them on the Day of Resurrection as a burden."
13520 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "And evil it is for them on the Day of Resurrection as a burden," he says: How evil is what they have carried.
13521 - From Ibn Zayd regarding His saying: "And evil it is for them on the Day of Resurrection as a burden," he said: It is not a connected phrase "wa sa'a lahum" (and evil for them); it should be separated, for if you connect it, you will not understand. It is not obscure. [The verse is] "sa'a lahum hamlan, khalidina fihi, wa sa'a lahum yawm al-qiyamati hamlan" (evil for them as a burden, abiding therein, and evil for them on the Day of Resurrection as a burden). He said: The burden of evil, and its bearer is settled in the Fire. He said: It is rather "wa sa'a lahum" (and evil for them) as a separate [phrase], with "sa'a" followed by "lahum."
The Saying of the Exalted: "And We will gather the criminals on that Day blue [eyed]."
13522 - From Ibn 'Abbas that a man came to him and said: Have you seen His saying: "And We will gather the criminals on that Day blue [eyed]," and another [verse says] "blind"? He said: Indeed, the Day of Resurrection has various states; they will be in a state of being blue-eyed, and in a state of being blind.
The Saying of the Exalted: "They whisper among themselves."
13523 - From Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "They whisper among themselves," he said: They confide in one another.
The Saying of the Exalted: "When their best in manner says."
13524 - From Sa'id ibn Jubayr regarding His saying: "When their best in manner says," he said: The most knowledgeable among them in his own estimation.
13525 - From Qatada regarding His saying: "When their best in manner says," he said: The most balanced of them among the disbelievers. "That you remained"—meaning in the world—"only a day," [because] when they were diminished in their own estimation.
