His saying, the Exalted: "Set me over the storehouses of the land."

11711 - Abu Sa‘id al-Ashajj narrated to us, Ishaq ibn Sulayman narrated to us, from Abu Ja‘far al-Razi, from Hisham ibn Hassan, from Muhammad ibn Sirin, from Abu Hurayrah who said: ‘Umar appointed me over Bahrain, then he removed me, then he later called me to serve, but I refused. He said: "Why? Joseph asked for employment."

11712 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Mukhtar narrated to us, from Shaybah ibn al-Nu‘man al-Dabbi regarding: "Set me over the storehouses of the land." He said: Pharaoh had many storehouses other than food, and he surrendered his entire authority to him and placed the judiciary under him; his command and his decree were effective.

His saying, the Exalted: "Indeed, I am a guardian, knowledgeable."

11713 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Abu al-Jamahir narrated to us, Sa‘id ibn Bashir narrated to us, Qatadah narrated to us, who said: "Set me over the storehouses of the land. Indeed, I am a guardian" of what I have been entrusted with, "knowledgeable" of its affairs.

11714 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn ‘Isa narrated to us, Salamah narrated to us, from Muhammad ibn Ishaq: "Indeed, I am a guardian"—meaning: keeping watch over what you have entrusted to me.

11715 - Sahl ibn Bahr al-‘Askari narrated to us, Husayn ibn ‘Ali ibn al-Aswad narrated to us, ‘Amr ibn Muhammad al-‘Anqazi narrated to us, al-Ashja‘i narrated to us, from Sufyan regarding His saying: "Indeed, I am a guardian, knowledgeable." He said: Guardianship of the accounts.

His saying: "Knowledgeable."

11716 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Safwan ibn Salih narrated to us, al-Walid narrated to us, Sa‘id narrated to us, from Qatadah regarding the saying of Allah: "Indeed, I am a guardian" of what I have been entrusted with, "knowledgeable" of its affairs.

11717 - ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Abi Hammad narrated to us, Ibrahim ibn Mukhtar narrated to us, from Shaybah ibn Na‘amah: "Indeed, I am a guardian" of what I have been entrusted with, "knowledgeable" of the years of famine.

11718 - Sahl ibn Bahr narrated to us, Husayn ibn ‘Ali al-Aswad narrated to us, ‘Amr ibn Muhammad narrated to us, al-Ashja‘i narrated to us, from Sufyan regarding His saying: "Indeed, I am a guardian, knowledgeable." He said: A guardian of the accounts, knowledgeable of tongues (languages).
