from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding his saying: "And those who seek the contract," meaning: those who request a mukatabah (contract of manumission).

His saying: "From what your right hands possess."

14453 - By way of him, from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, regarding the saying of Allah: "From what your right hands possess," meaning: from the slaves.

His saying: "Then make a contract with them if you know [there is] within them goodness."

14454 - Muhammad ibn Isma'il al-Ahmasi narrated to us, [saying]: Waki' reported, from Sufyan, from Jabir, from 'Amir, regarding his saying: "Then make a contract with them," he said: If he wishes, he may make a contract with his slave, and if he wishes, he may not.

14455 - It was read to Yunus ibn 'Abd al-A'la, [saying]: Ibn Wahb informed us, [saying]: Isma'il ibn 'Ayyash informed me, [saying]: A man informed me, from 'Ata' ibn Abi Rabah, regarding "Then make a contract with them if you know [there is] within them goodness," [he said]: If he wishes, he may make a contract, and if he wishes, he may not.

14456 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, [saying]: Muhammad ibn 'Ali reported, [saying]: Muhammad ibn Muzahim reported, [saying]: Bukayr ibn Ma'ruf reported, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan, regarding his saying: "Then make a contract with them," this is an instruction of permission and is not an obligation.
