Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas, regarding his saying: "Then make a contract with them if you know [there is] within them goodness," he says: If you know they have a means [of earning], and do not cast their burden upon the Muslims.
The second view:
14458 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, [saying]: Waki' reported, from Ibn 'Awn, from Ibn Sirin, from 'Abidah, regarding "Then make a contract with them if you know [there is] within them goodness," he said: If he performs prayer. It was also narrated from Ibn Sirin similar to that.
The third view:
14489 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Sufyan al-Ma'mari Muhammad ibn Humayd reported, [saying]: Ma'mar narrated to me, from Ayyub, from Ibn Sirin, from 'Abidah, regarding "Then make a contract with them if you know [there is] within them goodness," he said: Trustworthiness and righteousness.
The fourth view:
14490 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn 'Ulayyah reported, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid and Tawus, regarding "Then make a contract with them if you know [there is] within them goodness," they said: Wealth and trustworthiness.
The fifth view:
14491 - It was read to Abu 'Ubayd Allah, the brother of Ibn Wahb's son, [saying]: My uncle reported, [saying]: Muhammad ibn 'Amr al-Yafi'i informed us, from Ibn Jurayj, from 'Ata', who said: Ibn 'Abbas said: Regarding "if you know [there is] within them goodness," he said: Wealth.
14492 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, [saying]: Abu 'Abd al-Rahman al-Harithi reported, from Hajjaj, from al-Qasim, from Mujahid, regarding "Then make a contract with them if you know [there is] within them goodness," he said: Wealth, fulfillment, and honesty. It was also narrated from 'Ata' in some of the reports similar to that, and it was narrated from Ibrahim al-Nakha'i that he said: Honesty.
14493 - Ahmad ibn Sinan narrated to us, [saying]: Yazid ibn Harun reported, [saying]: Hisham ibn Hassan informed us, from al-Hasan, regarding "if you know [there is] within them goodness," he said: They possess wealth. It was also narrated from Sa'id ibn Jubayr, al-Suddi, Muqatil ibn Hayyan, and Qatadah that they said: Wealth.
