ibn Yusuf, from Ibn Jurayj, [who said]: 'Ata' ibn al-Sa'ib informed me that 'Abd Allah ibn Jundub informed him, from 'Ali, may Allah be pleased with him, from the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who said: "[A] fourth of the kitabah (contract of manumission)."
14509 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Khalid al-Ahmar reported, from Hajjaj, from 'Abd al-A'la, from 'Abd al-Rahman, from 'Ali, regarding His saying: "And give them from the wealth of Allah which He has given you," he said: He shall remit a fourth of it from him.
14510 - Muhammad ibn Isma'il narrated to us, [saying]: Waki' reported, from Abu Shabib, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas, from 'Umar, that he had a contract of manumission with a slave of his named Abu Umayyah. When his [installment's] time was due, he [the slave] brought his installment, so he [Umar] said: "O Abu Umayyah, go and seek assistance with it for your contract of manumission." He said: "O Commander of the Faithful, if you would only leave it [for me] until it is the last installment!" He said: "I fear I might not reach that [time]." Then he recited: "...then contract with them if you know any good in them, and give them from the wealth of Allah which He has given you." 'Ikrimah said: And that was the first installment paid in Islam.
14511 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Salih, the scribe of al-Layth, reported, [saying]: Mu'awiyah ibn Salih narrated to me, from 'Ali ibn Abi Talhah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "And give them from the wealth of Allah which He has given you," meaning: Remit part of their contract of manumission for them.
14512 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, [saying]: al-Muharibi reported, from Layth, from Mujahid, regarding "And give them from the wealth of Allah which He has given you," he said: From the wealth of the mukatab (slave under contract).
14513 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, [saying]: Abu Khalid reported, from Hajjaj, from al-Qasim ibn Abi Bazzah, regarding "And give them from the wealth of Allah which He has given you," he said: It is remitted from him. It was narrated from 'Ata' the same.
14514 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Qurrah ibn Habib al-Qushayri reported, [saying]: al-Hakam ibn 'Atiyyah reported, [saying]: Muhammad ibn Sirin was asked about the saying of Allah: "And give them from the wealth of Allah which He has given you." He said: It was pleasing to them that a man would leave for his mukatab a portion of his contract.
14515 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Nufayl reported, [saying]: 'Ubayd Allah ibn 'Umar reported, [saying]: I asked 'Abd al-Karim about the saying of Allah: "And give them from the wealth of Allah which He has given you," [asking] if it meant that he should remit for him half of what is due from him, or otherwise. He said: "He does not remit from what is due from him, but you give him from what you have from his installment."
