Tell me about the saying of Allah: "In which is a lamp," and the lamp is his heart, meaning the heart of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
His saying: "The lamp is in a glass."
14578 - Kathir ibn Shihab narrated to us, [saying]: Muhammad ibn Sabiq reported, [saying]: Abu Ja'far al-Razi reported from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, from Abu al-'Aliyah, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b regarding His saying: "The lamp is in a glass," that is the light in a glass, and the glass is his heart.
14579 - 'Abd Allah ibn Sulayman narrated to us, [saying]: al-Husayn ibn 'Ali reported, [saying]: 'Amir ibn al-Furat reported, [saying]: Asbat reported from al-Suddi: "In which is a lamp, the lamp is in a glass," and the glass is the heart.
14580 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, [saying]: Yazid ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz reported, [saying]: Ya'qub reported from Ja'far, from Shimr ibn 'Atiyyah, who said: Ibn 'Abbas came to Ka'b al-Ahbar and said: Tell me about the saying of Allah: "In a glass." He said: The glass is his breast, meaning: the breast of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace.
14581 - Muhammad ibn Sa'd al-'Awfi informed us in what he wrote to me, [saying]: My father narrated to me, [saying]: My paternal uncle narrated to me, [saying]: My father narrated to me from his grandfather, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding his saying: "In which is a lamp, the lamp is in a glass," the lamp is the lantern which is in the glass, and it is the parable that Allah set forth for His obedience, so He named His obedience a light, then He named it various kinds.
His saying, the Almighty: "The glass as if it were a brilliant star."
14582 - Muhammad ibn 'Ammar ibn al-Harith al-Razi narrated to us, [saying]: 'Ubayd Allah ibn Musa reported, [saying]: Abu Ja'far al-Razi reported from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, from Abu al-'Aliyah, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b regarding this verse: "The lamp is in a glass, the glass as if it were a brilliant star," he said: The glass is his heart as if it were a brilliant star. He said: His heart, when the Qur'an and faith illuminated within it, was as if it were a brilliant star.
14583 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, [saying]: Yazid ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz al-Tayalisi reported, [saying]: Ya'qub ibn 'Abd Allah al-Ash'ari reported from Ja'far ibn Abi al-Mughirah, from Shimr ibn 'Atiyyah, who said: Ibn 'Abbas came to Ka'b al-Ahbar and said: Tell me about the saying of Allah: "In a glass, the glass as if it were a brilliant star." He likened his breast—meaning the breast of Muhammad, may Allah bless him and grant him peace—to the brilliant star.
