His saying, Exalted is He: "Kindled from a blessed tree."

14591 - Muhammad ibn 'Ammar ibn al-Harith narrated to us, [saying]: 'Ubayd Allah ibn Musa reported, [saying]: Abu Ja'far al-Razi reported from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, from Abu al-'Aliyah, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b regarding this verse: "Kindled from a blessed tree." He said: The blessed tree, its blessed root is sincerity to Allah alone and worshipping Him, having no partner.

14592 - My father narrated to me, [saying]: Salamah ibn Bishr al-Naysaburi reported, [saying]: Abu Hisham ibn Hawshab informed me, from Abu Sinan, from al-Dahhak, from Ibn 'Abbas regarding His saying: "Kindled from a blessed tree," he said: A righteous man.

14593 - Muhammad ibn Yahya narrated to us, [saying]: Yazid ibn 'Abd al-'Aziz reported, [saying]: Ya'qub al-Qummi reported, from Ja'far, from Shimr ibn 'Atiyyah, who said: Ibn 'Abbas came to Ka'b al-Ahbar and said: Tell me about the saying of Allah: "Kindled from a blessed tree." He said: Then the lamp returned to his heart—meaning the heart of Muhammad, peace be upon him—and he said: "Kindled from a blessed tree."

14594 - My father narrated to me, [saying]: 'Amr ibn Rafi' reported, [saying]: Sulayman ibn 'Amir reported, [saying]: I heard al-Rabi' ibn Anas saying: "Kindled from a blessed tree," [meaning] a virtuous, blessed [tree]. It is that he adopted the Sunnah of the leaders of the prophets.

His saying, Exalted is He: "Olive."

14595 - Muhammad ibn 'Ammar ibn al-Harith narrated to us, [saying]: 'Ubayd Allah ibn Musa reported, [saying]: Abu Ja'far al-Razi reported from al-Rabi' ibn Anas, from Abu al-'Aliyah, from Ubayy ibn Ka'b regarding the saying of Allah: "Olive, neither of the East nor of the West." He said: Its likeness is like a tree surrounded by trees.

[His saying: Neither of the East nor of the West.]

[The first interpretation]

14596 - And by the same chain from Ubayy ibn Ka'b regarding the saying of Allah: "Olive, neither of the East nor of the West," he said: It is green and soft, not reached by the sun in any state it is in, neither when it rises nor when it sets. He said: Thus is this believer; he has been protected from being led astray by anything of the tribulations, and though he has been tried by them, Allah has made him steadfast therein. He is [characterized] by four qualities: if he speaks, he is truthful; if he judges, he is just; if he is tested, he is patient; and if he is given, he is grateful. Thus, among the rest of the people, he is like the living man walking among the graves of the dead.

14597 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashaj narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Idris reported from his father, from 'Atiyyah regarding "neither of the East nor of the West."
