His saying, the Exalted: "Men whom neither merchandise nor sale diverts."
[The First Aspect]
14645 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Ahmad ibn 'Amr ibn al-Sarh reported to us, [saying]: Ibn Wahb reported to us, [saying]: Ibn Lahi'ah informed us, [saying]: Sulayman ibn Ahmad reported to us, [saying]: Yahya ibn Ishaq al-Ahmas narrated to us, [saying]: Ibn Lahi'ah narrated to us, from Darraj Abu al-Samh, from Ibn Hujayrah, from Abu Hurayrah, from the Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) regarding his saying: "Men whom neither merchandise nor sale diverts from the remembrance of Allah," he said: They are those who travel in the land seeking the bounty of Allah.
[The Second Aspect]
14646 - Muhammad ibn 'Umarah ibn al-Harith narrated to us, [saying]: 'Abd al-Rahman ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Sa'd reported to us, [saying]: 'Amr ibn Abi Qays informed us, from Simak, from 'Ikrimah, from Ibn 'Abbas: "In houses which Allah has ordered to be raised and that His name be mentioned therein; therein glorify Him in the mornings and the evenings, men whom neither merchandise nor sale diverts from the remembrance of Allah," he said: Allah struck this parable. His saying: "The parable of His light is as if there were a niche and therein a lamp, the lamp in a glass, the glass [is] as it were a brilliant star," [this refers to] those people whom neither merchandise nor sale diverts from the remembrance of Allah.
14647 - Abu 'Abd Allah al-Tihrani informed us in what he wrote to me, [saying]: 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us (1), [saying]: Ja'far ibn Sulayman informed us, from 'Amr ibn Dinar, a freed slave of the family of al-Zubayr, from Salim, from Ibn 'Umar, that he was in the market and the prayer was called, so they closed their shops and entered the mosque. Ibn 'Umar said: "It was concerning them that [the verse] was revealed: 'Men whom neither merchandise nor sale diverts from the remembrance of Allah.'"
14648 - My father narrated to us, [saying]: Muhammad ibn 'Abd Allah ibn Bakr al-San'ani reported to us, [saying]: Abu Sa'id, the freed slave of Banu Hashim, reported to us, [saying]: 'Abd Allah ibn Buhayr reported to us, [saying]: Abu 'Abd Rabb narrated to us, [saying]: Abu al-Darda' said: "I stayed on these stairs trading on them, earning three hundred dinars every day, and I would witness the prayer every day in the mosque. Do not think that I say this is not lawful, but I love to be among those whom Allah spoke of: 'Men whom neither merchandise nor sale diverts from the remembrance of Allah.'" (2)
14649 - Abu Sa'id al-Ashajj narrated to us, [saying]: al-Muharibi reported to us, from Juwaybir, from al-Dahhak: "Men whom neither merchandise nor sale diverts from the remembrance of Allah," he said: They are in their markets, buying and selling, but when the time for prayer comes, neither buying nor selling diverts them from the prayer.
