Sa‘id, from Qatadah regarding His saying: "And He will surely establish for them their religion which He has chosen for them." He said: It is Islam.

14771 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali ibn al-Husayn reported to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim reported to us, Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf reported to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "And He will surely establish for them their religion which He has chosen for them," meaning that Allah has indeed done that for them, and for those who came after them from this Ummah, so He established them in the earth.

His saying (Most High): "And He will surely replace them with security after their fear."

14772 - Kathir ibn Shihab narrated to us, Muhammad ibn Sa‘id ibn Sabiq reported to us, Abu Ja‘far al-Razi reported to us, from al-Rabi‘, from Abu al-‘Aliyah regarding His saying: "Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous deeds that He will surely make them successors in the earth as He made those before them successors, and He will surely establish for them their religion which He has chosen for them, and He will surely replace them with security after their fear," to the end of the verse. He said: The Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) and his companions were in Makkah for about ten years, calling to Allah (Mighty and Majestic) alone and to His worship alone without any partner, in secret while they were afraid. They were not commanded to fight until they were commanded after the emigration to al-Madinah. They arrived in al-Madinah, and Allah commanded them to fight. They were afraid while there; they would spend the evening in armor and spend the morning in armor. They remained thus for as long as Allah willed. Then one of his companions said: "O Messenger of Allah, are we going to be afraid like this forever? Is there no day coming upon us when we will be secure and lay down our weapons?" The Messenger of Allah (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) said: "You will not remain so for long, until a man among you will be able to sit in a large gathering, reclining, with no piece of iron on him." Then Allah revealed: "Allah has promised those among you who believe and do righteous deeds that He will surely make them successors in the earth as He made those before them successors, and He will surely establish for them their religion which He has chosen for them, and He will surely replace them with security after their fear," to the end of the verse. Allah (Great and Majestic) manifested His Prophet over the Arabian Peninsula, so they became secure and laid down their weapons. Then, Allah took His Prophet (may Allah bless him and grant him peace) in death, and they remained likewise, secure, during the caliphate of Abu Bakr, ‘Umar, and ‘Uthman, until they fell into what they fell into, and they were ungrateful for the blessing. So Allah brought upon them the fear that had been lifted from them, and they employed guards and security measures, and they changed; so He changed what was with them.

14773 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali reported to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim reported to us, Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf reported to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "And He will surely replace them with security after their fear, they worship Me, not associating anything with Me," meaning that Allah had done that for them and for those after them, until this...
