to lay aside the jilbab and the waist wrapper (mintaq). Ma‘mar said: And in the variant reading of Ibn Mas‘ud [it is]: "That they may lay aside some of their garments."
His saying: "[not] displaying adornment."
14849 - My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn ‘Ubayd Allah reported to us, Ibn al-Mubarak reported to us, Sawwar ibn Maymun reported to us, Talhah bint ‘Asim reported to us, from Umm al-Diya’ that she said: I entered upon her and said: O Mother of the Believers, what do you say regarding henna (al-khidab), the nose ring (al-niqas), dye, earrings, anklets, a gold ring, and thin garments? She said: O group of women, your story is all the same; Allah has permitted for you adornment, [provided you are] not displaying it—meaning: It is not permissible for you that they should see of you that which is forbidden.
14850 - My father narrated to us, Hisham ibn Khalid reported to us, al-Walid reported to us, from Khulayd, from al-Hasan and Qatadah, he said regarding His saying: "[not] displaying adornment": [They are those who are] exposing the throat and the like thereof.
14851 - Abu Zur‘ah narrated to us, Yahya ibn ‘Abd Allah ibn Bukayr reported to us, ‘Abd Allah ibn Lahi‘ah narrated to me, from ‘Ata’ ibn Dinar, from Sa‘id ibn Jubayr regarding the saying of Allah: "[not] displaying adornment," he says: Do not display [yourselves] by laying aside the jilbab such that what you have of adornment is seen.
14852 - I read to Muhammad ibn al-Fadl, Muhammad ibn ‘Ali reported to us, Muhammad ibn Muzahim reported to us, Bukayr ibn Ma‘ruf reported to us, from Muqatil ibn Hayyan regarding His saying: "[not] displaying adornment," he says: It is not for her to lay aside the jilbab intending thereby to show her necklaces, her earrings, and what she has of adornment.

14853 - My father narrated to us, al-Hasan ibn al-Rabi‘ reported to us, Abu Zayd ‘Athar reported to us, from Mutarrif, from ‘Atiyyah regarding His saying: "And that they act with modesty is better for them," he said: That they persist in covering is better for them.
14854 - al-Hajjaj ibn Hamzah narrated to us, Shababah reported to us, Warqa’ reported to us, from Ibn Abi Najih, from Mujahid, regarding His saying: "And that they act with modesty," meaning: That they wear their jalabib. It has been narrated from al-Hasan and Qatadah similar to the saying of Mujahid.
